It presents the darker side of life and it can introduce pretty sad situations with really emotional heavy beats that touches the mind and soul. I really like Three Days Grace, their songs are pretty sad, I know that the song "Last to Know" is about a dysfunctional relationship and being cheated on with you being the last one to know about it. They have other songs too that might interest you too. There's a few punk bands that I listen to, the hard core screamo ones aren't very sad but there are some emotional ones like "Love is gone" by a German band called Blind. Seether is a good one too. I tend to listen to sad songs when I'm sad.
