I always wonder what if you have a surprise guest I mean a friends that didn't call you and surprised you by visiting in your house and they are hungry and tired, can you fix a quick meal for them in like 15 or 10 minutes(If you have the supplies or ingredients in the pantry/fridge). I always see in this on TV and im always amazed like Nigella Lawson, Rachael Ray, and Jamie Oliver they can whip some quick and amazing yet delicious meals in just a matter of minutes while entertaining the guest.
I'm wondering if can do it I would be flustered if i haven't prepared the stuff...
Can you prepare a quick fix for your surprise guest ?
Well you try unique but easy to make dishes and entertain them at the same time?
or you will just order?

Frankly I don't think that they can make the meal that quickly. Not unless they have all of the ingredients, meats, etc., unthawed and in the refrigerator.
I can whip up some Hot Tamales in about 20 minutes, but if I want the celery cooked till tender I need to at least let it simmer for an hour.
The only other things one can whip up in 10 to 15 minutes would be an omlet, scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast. Grilled sandwiches, canned soup, etc.
If I have hamburger unthawed already, then I get whip up a pretty good meal in about 45 minutes from start to finish.

Well if one has lunch meats, ham or chicken, etc., in their refrigerator they can always make grilled sandwiches. Those go real quick. They can make some instant potatoes. Or if they have left over boiled potatoes, they can slice them and put them in butter and fry them. Serve a vegetable along with and they have a nice meal.
Make up a box mixed cake mix or brownie mix and you have dessert. Or use the instant box of pudding with some fruit or just plain, a simple dessert.

Your absolutely right it seems breakfast food is the most easiest to prepare and whip up, I saw one TV show in TLC I think its Crash my Kitchen I'm not sure they transformed ordinary breakfast meals in to gourmet style that can be eaten B,L,D (breakfast, lunch, dinner) in a minimum effort but maximum satisfaction.
Its also really hard to make food if you didn't unthawed something which is absolutely true like what you stated Mary.

Nope :) If I had a surprise guest, my question to them would be "want me to run out and pick up some food?" We are not good at throwing things together last minute. It takes me time to see what we got, decide on a recipe, and then put it all together. I'd rather just order pizza or go pick up something from a restaurant instead.
I love to make new and unique dishes, but I need to do it without distractions because I could easily mess up otherwise.

If they weren't invited i wouldn't be obligated to feed them. If they wanted to help out we could order something.

If they were guess that i really invited in or a Guess I really wanted in, I will make an effort and cook a nice meal. If its someone I dont really want to be in my home. They can enjoy a glass of water with ice cubes. be I'm only hospitable depends on the situation. the fastest meal i can do would be a salad or a sandwich.

For some reason quick meals escape me. I don't seem to be able to take less than half an hour to prepare a meal. Unless of course I happen to be making boxed food which I wouldn't serve to a guest and do not make very often at all as I much prefer home made foods

I know right unless we are experts in 10min,15min,20min kitchen wonders LOL, I think its ok to serve box or canned food if you cook it and make it different one of my friends when we went to her house (she is now a mother) just opened a can of corned beef and toast some bread, while entertaining us and happy talking to one another and voula she made some toasted bread with sauteed corned beef it is really okay what matter is that you all had good time .
have a great day shiesse!

There are many quick dishes for you friends that you can prepare. There are many types of quick made pasta. Also you can make simple sandwiches. I always serve up some meat, cucumbers, vegetables, fruits, bread and some sweets if i have. :) I haven't ordered any type of food when a guest arrives, it seems so unnatural and strange :D

I always keep hotdogs in my freezer along with Bratwurst. If my son brings in some of his friends I can grill them easily and serve with chips and a salad.
Or I always keep hamburger and a large can of manwich to make sloppy joes.
I had 5 kids so fixing something quick is nothing new to me.
