Developmental psychology is the field that does research in stuff that most would find a bit boring, like the effect of liver enzymes on behavior. But here's some stats that you may find interesting. Baby boys are born with one or two points lower IQ than baby girls. Girls/women are smarter than boys/men by just a couple of points. If you are born by C-section instead by natural birth, you have one or two IQ points higher. If you are born in the winter instead of the summer, you are one or two points smarter on average. So I, a male born in the heart of summer by natural birth, am the dumbest, on average, of anyone. My granddaughter, who is to be born by C-section on January 5, will be, on average, the smartest little girl compared to anyone else, on average.

That's really interesting. I'm a girl, so I'm smart. However, I was born via natural birth & also born in the summer, so I have two strikes against me!
Actually, the one about being born by C-section makes sense because it seems like it could cause some head trauma when you're born naturally... I guess girls/women might be smarter because their verbal scores on assessment tests tend to be higher. But why being born in the winter would affect one's IQ is beyond me! :)

The heat is more stressful on newborns. Babies are bundled up and warm in the winter and they aren't taken out in cold and adverse conditions. Summer heat affects babies more because -- while you can bundle up a baby from cold you can't carry an air conditioner around. We actually pay people to study this stuff.
