How is your penmanship/handwriting?

Handwriting is the physical activity of writing printed or cursive characters with the hand and a writing instrument. It incorporates posture, balance, visual acuity, fine motor skills, and knowledge of how individual letters are formed. Penmanship is the art of writing clearly and quickly. The main purpose of penmanship instruction is to promote legibility in handwriting so that we can effectively communicate with others.
As a teacher, I would really appreciate if my students write legibly. It would be easy to check their papers if they have good penmanship or handwriting. I take much time reading the papers of those whose penmanship is awful.
The need for good penmanship has not gone out of style even in the computer age. We still have to sign our name on checks and other documents, jot down notes, write memos, make various lists like shopping list, address envelopes, fill out forms, take written exams, and so much more.

I have excellent penmanship. I wouldn't say I'm proud of it, but it's one of the things I always felt good about in school. Funny story. In college for some reason I preferred to print, not write in cursive when I kept notes. One day a girl leaned over and took a look at my notebook. She asked me why I typed my notes. I told her I didn't. Another girl chimed in and was like, yes you do, I'm looking at your notes right now. I had to explain to them my printing was my own handwriting, I had not typed it.

Dear Friend, You touched an interesting subject, which many people ignore the importance unconsciously.
Even in today's computers, word processing, email, etc., do not forget that we must not lose the habit of writing well in hand with the pen.
I personally do not have a beautiful handwriting, but in my writings in italics I can make clear to the reader, clearly enough.

I think schools have to emphasize the importance of a good handwriting.

What, have not written any thing for ages? I suggest that you practice writing once in a while. Supposing you have to write something? At any rate write once in a while. Happy New Year!

Happy new year. May your Christmas and New Year be a happy and prosperous one. I like nice handwriting and for me I am attracted to someone who writes well and good. My penmanship is not so bad but not so good either. One thing I cant change is my signature. Its all my whole name and my surname. It took me some time but I just cannot change. I do have lots of documents to sign but my signature remains the same and so with my handwriting. Most doctors I know write not so legibly though.

As long as no one can easily copy your signature, then that would be fine..

I know what it is to have a good penmanship. People usually judge others by their handwriting. If you are a clean or neat person, it should show in your handwriting. If you are generous or giving, it is also reflected in your penmanship. Unfortunately, my handwriting is probably one of the ugliest penmanship in the world. I mean, are you familiar with a doctor's prescription? Mine is even worst than that. I think I am the only person who can decipher my penmanship. I envy those people who have beautiful strokes. I'd love to have that kind of penmanship but what can I do? I just happen to write like a "doctor's prescription."

I remember watching a show before where their guests discussed how to tell one's personality through their handwriting. I forgot which talkshow though..

I have been passionate about my penmanship from early childhood and have always been appreciated for my good, clean & stylish [cursive] handwriting. I guess most of my good scoring in college was helped by the legibility of my handwriting. I hate to read illegible notes. When I started working, we had to do a lot of writing especially file notes. Badly scribbled & illegible notes would irritate me to no end. I used to always motivate colleagues to ensure quality of grammar and handwriting.

And of course, we spend extra time trying to decipher what is written when we could have accomplished other tasks instead..

As far as I can observe my own handwriting, I still need to improve on it. My cursive can be a little challenging to read unless one has gotten familiar with how I write but for those who would just get to read my cursive handwriting for the first time, I would say that they might come to me to clarify what letter I wrote in particular.
I have also some irregularities with my handwriting in print. My letters r, n, v, and u seem to have some similarities so if considered individually, they mostly look the same but when written with other letters to form words, perhaps those who would get to read them can figure out what letter they should be.
I would really like to practice my hand writing. My mother has very beautiful handwriting that I quite envy. My father's signature is much better than what I can make up as a signature.

To be honest, my penmanship is one of the ugliest writing in the whole wide world. That just me, because I didn't really seriously write a good handwriting. Or maybe I am inherently not good at writing at all. That just too late for it, now, I type more than I write, so I would rather have the computer subrogate my penmanship writing.

yes, that is true, there are student who don't have nice handwriting or penmanship and its hard to read it sometimes, and the most who have not nice penmanship are those men compare to women, that is my observation when i taught high school students before.

It varies from time to tome and perhaps, my mood when I am writing. There are times when my script is uniform; there are times where I write in capital letters for no apparent reason. I usually combine cursive and non-cursive which results on difficulty in interpretation if I read it later.
There are also times when I try to decipher what vowel I was using at that time, becuase of my hasty script. Other times, I write thin letters and there are also times when my letters and words seem too big.
I agree with your observation that writing in script is still important. We still have pen and appear and we rely on them as much we did in the past.

hi dear dolce_vita it depends on the situation. When I write a letter or a note for someone else I try my best to have a very legible handwriting and most people even say my handwriting looks good.
But when I am in a hurry, like taking notes at work of what not to forget, making my shopping list no one else has to cope with or write a to do list I also scribble the notes but I can still read what it means.

I have always seemed to have horrible penmanship. My mother says that i write too fast and it looks sloppy. I was often jealous of my friends in schools when they had such pretty handwriting. i am one of those people that typewriters and computers were designed for. thst way my handwriting skills did not suffer so much.
