What would make my cat's eye change color??

Inky is my cat, my beautiful baby girl! She is 7 years old, solid black with golden eyes. But I noticed about 6 months ago her left eye started to change color, little by little it was turning darker, and it even seemed like it was sinking in just a little bit. She seems to be okay, it doesn't seem to have affected her in anyway. I've had so many expenses this year I haven't had the money to take her to the vet, and then just to have him tell me it's nothing. Do any of you know what could cause this? Why her eye is changing color? I do worry, but what could it be? Please let me know if you've heard of anything like this before. Thank you.

i would have it checked first chance you get, even if it doesn't seem to be bothering her.one of mine his darkened and then the pupil fixed open-turned out he had a brain mass caused by FIP(feline infectious peronitis). it could be cataracts, but usually when you see eyes changing in a cat,it's best to be safe than sorry.

Your cat had a brain mass caused by FIP? I've never heard of that before. Was that a cancer? I don't know what this could be.

Funny, I just started a discussion about my own eyes just a couple of minutes ago...LOL Turns out I have an eye infection in my left eye. That got me to thinking about your cat though. I wasn't even aware that I had an eye infection, only that the vision was a little off in that eye. The same thing could be going on with your cat. Perhaps she has an infection in that eye. If that's the case then unfortunately you will have no choice but to take her to the vet. Now it could also be that she is starting to lose her vision because she is an older cat. My dog who is about ten yrs. old has a slight discoloration covering over both her eyes. Last time we took her to the vet we asked him about it & he said that right now it wasn't that bad but as she gets old it will only get worse she will slowly lose her vision. It happens with a lot of older animals he said. So that could be the cause as well. You wont really know for sure though until you take her to see the vet.

I never thought about that it could be an infection. But maybe it could. If you had in infection then I guess my Inky could have one too. I know I need to take her to the vet, but they cost so much, and they will probably just tell me that there is nothing wrong. I've been sick for several months so I've been weak and don't get out as much as I use too. I will try to see what I can do. Thanks :)

how does the iris seem, does it seem to be a different color than the other eye? When I started working for Maggiepie in 2007, I saw immediately that the right eye was reflecting back a yellow tint that the left one wasn't. I ran her by my vet to have it checked (and to get a rabies shot and make sure she really was fixed) and they said it did seem to have very limited vision. Then, in August of 2008, it started running badly and when that stopped, she obviously had a cataract in that eye. I would try to get Inky to a vet, 7 is at the point where you need to think of her as a senior cat, and if she's inside/outside even more so. Oh, we are not certain how old Minnie is, she's probably closer to 10 than 5 and spent sometime as a stray before Maggie took her in.

Yes, it's her iris that is changing color. It is getting darker than the other eye. It seems to be turning color from the inside of the eye, not on top of the eye like a cataract would form. She is an inside cat. I haven't noticed any running from her eye yet.

I don't know if this is the only reason but I had a dog that's eyes changed color and it was caused by cataracs, her eyes went from brown and slowly changed to a deep blue color. There also seemed to be a film over her eyes as the cataracs became worse. Eventually she was completely blind from it.

I've seen some dogs who have developed cataracts and I could tell how there was a film like over their eyes and their eyes got that lighter cloud like color to them. Hers is different, so far there isn't a film or a light color. It seems to be getting darker from the inside of her eye. I'm so sorry your dog ended up blind. That is so sad.
