Every year when new years eve gets here i forget to turn my mobile phone off.It seems to take ages to send all the new years messages through, as there are lots of people that are doing the same thing at the same time.Last year i got woke up at 3am from a friends text that said happy new year, even though they sent it to me at mid night, so this year i will be turning it off.

My solution is to get late and go to bed at like 6 AM. This way you will enjoy the first hours of the new year, and you don't have to worry about your new year greetings waking you up. If you turn your phone off you can read your greetings in the morning, so I don't think you will have any problems either ways.

I have children, so i do not have the choice in not getting up early.I also had my children woken up at 3am last year. This year i will be going to bed at 1am and making sure my phone is off.I can get all my messages when i get up on new years day, when i turn my phone on.

I don't turn the phone off, just the alerts. My old phone used to light up whenever there was a message and that would wake me up. My new phone is better.

haha :D I'm good since most of my new year greetings came in before midnight and thus allowing me to have a peaceful sleep I guess many of my friends already learnt their lessons ever since they had a mobile phone way back. They know messages will never reach in time when the whole world is greeting each other.. With that, i rather have an early greeting rather than an 'early' disturbance.. lol

Nah, I leave my mobile phone on all of the time because of the fact that we have a large family and several members of our family are getting older so it is pretty important for me to have my phone on in case something happens to someone in my family. With that said, I got all of the messages from friends that were wishing me a Happy New Year within about 30 minutes after 2011 had come to an end.

So far I have not experienced getting a message while I'm sleeping on New Years Eve. I normally sleep really late those times like around 1:30 to 2AM. So before I go to bed I will usually get all the New Year greetings Some even sends the greetings as early as 7PM onwards so that we can at least concentrate on celebrating New Year with my family and not to get pissed with the delay in sending. Happy New Year to you

I sent all of my messages at 9pm last year, so that people would get them early rather than in the early hours of the next day. This year i will be turning my phone off earlier so that i do not get woken up again, mind you i will not be going to bed until after 1am.Happy new year to you as well.

I will probably keep my phone on, just in case someone wants to call me, even though not many people have my mobile on. But I won't have that problem because I don't have texting on my phone. What I will probably do is keep my phone on until I come home and go to bed, at which time I'll turn it off.

The latest i will keep mine on for will be until i go to bed, which will be about 1am.I do not want a repeat of last year being woken up a long with the rest of my house hold at 3am, so it will be going off and so will all the other mobile phones.I can get any messages that i need to in the morning when i get up, as that will be when i turn it on.

I would never text anyone that late at night because I would worry about waking them up. I leave my cell phone down stairs in the night so if someone calls me or texts me after I'm asleep it doesnt wake me or my kids up. No one needs to get ahold of me in the middle of the night. I hadnt thought about how backed up the cell phone messages might be at midnight on new years eve but it makes perfect sense now that you've said it.

My phone, as well as everyone elses will be turned off at 1am this year, as i have no need to keep it on and it also ensures that i will not be getting woken up.I think that the text messages must all get backed up, as there are lots of people that are trying to text all at once.

Er... no. My mobile will be on but I very much doubt that anybody will be texting me to send messages. I try not to give the number out as its purpose us for emergencies. But I am sure that plenty of folk do use that method of saying hello. Happy New Year to you and yours.

I only have a problem with text messages, so my mobile phone will be switched off and if anyone needs me they know to ring my home phone.Happy new year to you and yours, have a great new year.

I had mine on as i was away from home and my boyfriend asked if he could call me at midnight. After he called...and we talked for a while. I turned the sound off on my phone and let texts wait until morning. I have left it on in the past and it drove me nuts because many of my family members who text at midnight are...texting me at 1am my time as they are an hour behind me. This year i was there so there wasnt near as many midnight texts.

At the crucial moments where messages are being sent all over the world at the same time, there are bound to be jams somehow. I'm glad my friends decide to send their greetings to me in advance, before midnight. There's some years back where their new year greetings reached me only 2 days after the New year. I can't imagine the signal jam can be that bad and i was surprised when i saw that message coming to me.

I got the messages that I expected from my friends today, and some of them are pissed at me for I do not keep my phone on and they get their messages wasted. So no, there is no point in keeping my phone on. I'll probably call my grandpa to wish him new year.

I have to try to remember to keep mine charged up, lol, as i am forever forgetting to charge it.I get fed up of all the jokes that people send me as well as those chain things that people ask you to send to ten friends.I will be turning my phone off, but if anyone needs me urgent, then they know to call my home phone.

I also turn it off. I got a story about last year I received a message with Happy newyear 2 days after it was sent. So for me is it really quiet.

We are all turning off our mobile phones, that way we should not get woken up by text messages.I will leave my home phone on, just in case we need it, or incase someone needs us.

I had mine on, and actually was one sending some of my friends Text messages at midnight wishing them a Happy New Year. I was still at work at midnight getting ready to get off work, so I was definately up. I guess it is up to each individual what works best for them.

I always turn my phone off at night anyway, I never leave it on all night. I'd be irritated if someone did that to me too, usually if I get phone calls late at night like that, its usually because someone in my family got sick or got taken to the hospital, it always scares me a little bit.

Have you ever thought of just turning your volume off instead of your phone. That way it won't wake you up in the middle of the morning but you will have all of the texts and messages waiting for you when you do get up. Then you can deal with them as you want to.
