I have noticed that lots of fireworks will sparks and cover the sky during New year eve tonight.. That was really amazing moments not only for everyone who attend the celebration live but also for photographer. However, taking such pictures in the dark and really short duration moment is not that easy.. We must doing good preparation and bring the right tools and equipment.I have tried once last year but ended up with not satisfying result. I have got blur image and the fireworks seems not really wonderful when I was tried to captured it..I have brought along tripod but still get unsatisfying result, maybe need special lens to do that.. How about you? Do you have any tips to shot those fireworks with limited tools?

May be it is late. I had picture of a lot of firework at 2007 new year. At that time, I use only old pocket camera which I bought at 2003. Using FIREWORK MODE can get fairly good picture. The most important is do not shake the camera while take the picture (better to have a tripod). I already accustomed to my camera so I can minimize shake (without any Image Stabilization on my camera). The second important thing, is the camera. Fortunately my camera has aperture f 2.7 which can get good picture at low light. Unfortunately, my new camera only had f 3.1 so I often get difficulty in taking picture indoor.. :(

hello there omchesunche, Indeed it is a great experience to photoshoot a fireworks event. Especially in a scenario of fireworks competition. As you will really love the color blending that ignites in the air. And to be able to capture this great event, you must have the proper exposure. And you can have this even you have only the basic DSLR Camera which stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. As in, even you just have the most basic type of this camera, you can have the best shot of a fireworks. Just set the proper exposure and infinity of the lens. Not to exclude the help of your tripod. As this thing will surely help you to focus more on the shutter speed of your DSLR.

Most digital cameras now have the fireworks setting where you can keep the shutter open as long as you are pressing on the shutter button. This setting (which I have on a 2008 Nikon L14 digital camera) also allows for night shots of the streets where you get to see the lights coming from vehicles making lines on the photo. I don't really need a tripod for taking night shots especially when I'm not inside a moving vehicle. All I do is simply rest my hands on a ledge or something to keep my camera steady during the time the shutter is open.
