What's the reason that Nokia cellphones become less popular?

Nokia was the best selling cellphones in the past. However, today it seems that Nokia's market is shrinking. What do you think about it? Any reasons? I personally think that they have a failing operating system. Symbian is not good and especially today less software or games support this operating system.

I guess it's just the marketing power of the other more popular celphones nowadays. I too had a nokia celphones when I started out. I even had one of the more expensive models.
Then the blackberry machine took over and I got one. Nowadays, apple's got the power so I'm in the middle of transition too.
I don't think it's anything but the marketing. If there are any glitches in the software, I'm sure they would have been able to fix it.

Well there are so many phones now in the market. Before, it was Nokia who offers a lot of models and they were most likely the number one selling phone before. But as technology develops, many other phones came into the picture with far better features and better performance. Samsung came into the picture and of course, the iphone. Truly they are great and wonderful. Perhaps Nokia failed to compete with what other phones have offered and this probably is the reason why their sales went down. But who knows.. perhaps now they are thinking of developing their phones to compete once again with the newer models and brands.

I agree.. many people buy other brand of phone because they like the features of other brand. Even the other brand are more expensive that Nokia they still buy it because they like the application of it. Me,i love playing games in Samsung and Iphone because of the high technology that i see in their games.

Yes you are absolutely right. Their decision to stick to Symbian is the main reason for the dip in the sales of Nokia Phones. Android & iOS are much more capable mobile Operating systems and everyone prefers these OS now. There are not many apps available for Symbian and even the OS is not as refined as Android or iOS. I hope the sales would improve atleast a bit with their latest Windows Phone 7 lineup..!!

Windows Phone 7 is a OS which now gaining popularity and soon is coming into limelight. Nokia are now using Windows phone 7 (7.5 to be precise) in their high end phones. Windows is still in a development phase I would say. There are may disadvantages right now like No Bluetooth file sharing, USB file sharing possible only through Zune, strict hardware requirements, limited apps, necessary video encryption etc...It has a fresh and attractive UI though. Syncing with a Windows PC is easier. Its handles documents well. Overall its a good OS buts still needs a lot of improvement some of which is coming with Windows 8. It still lags behind Android and iOS but soon will be there competiting neck to neck with them,!!

I guess so but according to IDC America, Nokia still hold the top spot with the most sales, although it continues to loss market that should be willingly given yo Samsung.
So, the cause of Nokia market Down are :
1. Operating system problem , not following the trend and people move to Android
2. Many smartphone market
3. The emergence of the local mobile vendor
4. Losing competing with local vendor
5. Nokia mobile feature.....behind the times

Thanks less.....I think Blackberry loss the market in our country....their market in Indonesia almost closed due ignoring the government rules...to make server in Indonesia. I read the article about market Blackberry down because quiet expensive and the technology behind Android. Samsung and China vendor are dominated the smarthphone market in Indonesia.

Yes, i really think so too, I guess it's because their phones are so expensive, even their most basic cellphone is so expensive. Also there are so many other brands that are cheaper and much more functional than Nokia like myphone, etc. I think people are becoming more practical than being brand conscious now a days.

yes, with many surveys said like that..
maybe here are my opinion..
1. too many big opponent or competitor of Nokia, like from Blackberry, Samsung and so on..
2. Nokia is late for updating many series and only depends on their famous series like N70, N73..they forget something that now the era of Tablet PC and smartphone and they are late for launching their series for PC tablet and smartphone..
3. they are wrong when choose a partner..they should choose android as their OS in their cellphone or product, but they choose unpopular windows phone..
4. the price of simple Nokia is still exspensive and it`s not popular when somebody want to buy a same price of Nokia with another smartphone who had price more cheaper than nokia series

i agree..before all of my friend are using Nokia phone but now they are using androids. I don't have enough money to buy android phone but i always borrow my friends phone just to play games. We are still using Nokia phone but just for sending text message because it is still more easy to use type in Nokia than other phone brand.
Happy Mylotting..

I think it is not mainstream to have a nokia telephone. The new mainstream are those stupid telephone by blackberry. Or those telephone by apple. Iam a proud owner of a nokia n73 and I like it because I don't feel the need of ping or other tings, And another advantage is when your nokia falls it doesn't break or is damaged. And when your iphone or blackberry falls it is damaged and it doesn't work properly.

yes, its because that they are no more in the state to competing, as we know this finlad company made its mark in the past but they are unable to do so in the future. may be its because they are not offering the same features as the other heavyweights are doing. and during the course of the year moble market has een growing with an immense rate.

Nokia cellphone is getting degrade in its production and sales. Because apple will give quality products and also improve various features in it. Apple phone is highly protected and support various application and software.

Hi!
You appear right to me that many users are resorting to 'Android' operating system which is apparently much faster.
Also, other companies such as Samsung and Motorola etc. are bringing in much cheaper handset in market than Nokia phones.
Happ New Year to you. :-)

Hello you less
I heard a rumour that Nokia is going bankrupt but I don't know how much truth is into that. I am a good fan for Nokia phones, but I rather use them as phones not for devices full of games and aplications.
Cheers and Happy New Year !

Hi Friend,
Technology is all about innovation. A company can beat the competition if it has a great and innovative technical product and the company need to spend a lot to improve even best product it has. Nokia definitely is still the best company in my point of view but it its innovation and the barometer which keeps a check on requirement of the people is not there. In India it has great rapport among people but it fails to realize the importance of Dual Sim phones and that has put it behind.

Hi youless,
You're right. Just a few short years ago, Nokia used to be number 1 in terms of mobile phone choice. They excel in range of models, reliability, battery life etc. The Korean phones like Samsung and LG pale in comparison. Now the tables have turned. Samsung will be number 1 soon I think. The reason is because Nokia has failed to recognize a superior OS and insist on sticking to their Symbian OS. Now they are going with Windows OS but I think it's too late as they will lose out as far as apps are concerned. There are so many apps built for Android as opposed to Windows. So unless Nokia adopts the Android OS and jumps on the bandwagon I'm afraid Nokia will be history.

Yes, yesterday I answered a discussion that why aren't Nokia moving onto the Android O.S. and a common response was that they don't want to be a part of the crowd and do what the others are doing. But unfortunately, people think otherwise and want an android phone.
But if my android phone screws up, I may still go back to a Nokia phone. The first ever phone that I had was a 3110c. I loved it and still do. Also, the N8 is considered one of the best phones, with symbian Anna and 12MP camera.
