What do you think about online chat?

Online chat has been around us for quite some time now. From the traditionally well known ICQ and MIRC to Skype and facebook. It is not something new. However online chat may have certain effect on people. Have you ever notice people around you, maybe friends, intimate partner or family members online chat a lot? Did they touch certain intimate issue, expose personal details etc and what is the implication of it? is it good or bad?
My mom had a real life boyfriend, yet she chats online with some guy and they are actually quite intimate. The guy showed her some adult only photos etc and later on ask her to borrow money so that he can come over to my country, my place to see us. Of course, my mom refused and since then never dare to chat online again.

I do not participate in online chat, I don't feel comfortable in chat rooms, in the past I have had a few bad experiences which have put me off, cyberbullying and people harrassing you. So when I view sites with chat rooms I always turn them off. If I want to chat I will use facebook to chat with my friends. Some people find it easy to chat and make friends quick and are comfortable chatting to strangers. I guess it's down to the individual, you either like them or hate them. You have to be very careful what information you give in the chatrooms because you just don't know who is on there and what type of people they are! It can be dangerous too!

i lik online chat like that,i bebieve i can ignore the people with bad intent and catch the men i glad to chat and pay close attention like you buddy~~
when online post may make me more free,i needn't to worry about if they have the time or if they interested in my topic and weather i have bottered them because they are free select to come in.
furthermore,there have so many excellent people online i desired to catch on what even else in thier pretty little brain.

good question, there are always two sides to everything, that depends people ,the key is how to use. like a vegetable, if used cut vegatable, it's so good, but if used kill person, it's a big sin. we could not deny everything by only one bad thing,like internet, it has huge advangages itself, we feel everyday. the key is how to make full use of it??

Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. It all depends. When it is my family, friends and boyfriend, then I will use it. I am not much into online chatting and talking on the telephone because I just think that it is so impersonal.

I only chat with people I know and if I do chat with someone I only met online, then if they start getting creepy by asking for money, then I will block them, but continue to chat with my other friends..

Happy New Year Squallming! I am a chatter and have had realllllllllll good friends online. you really have to be selective with your chatmates. there are some scammers who would ask for money while there are some who likes to feed on the emotions of women.

Call me an old grouch, but I'm very much against online chatting for recreational purposes. I'm well-acquainted with mirc, and it nearly ruined my family and my marriage. Many people are lonely and want to become intimate virtually because it's "not the same" type thing as the real thing, but still, the emotions involved is sure the same. I will not allow chat softwares and online chat room activity happen in our flat. No way.
The only chat I'm okay with is Skype (for marketing and personal friends/family) and Facebook. I only have people that I know personally on my Facebook.
Best be safe than sorry.

TEXT online chat or Voice only online chat is ok for me.
I cannot accept video chat with someone i do not know.
For Text or Voice as do not know each other and will not recognize each other in real life, i feel more comfortable to chat.
Hence, I never upload real photo to the Facebook account which use to meet new friend.
Well, you mother is clever to refuse him.

Hi squallming,
Online chatting is adavncement of sms in phone. Chatting online have both advantage and disadvantage too. The main advantage is most of peoples who do business all over the world online chat as connection for updating all the activites. So much business are getting developed and developing.
On disadvantage side, its all belongs on persons personality. Few peoples get deep into online friends and lose their times and money.
Its good to share their knowledge and thoughts with online friends but don't get deeper and pain yourself. Just spend only few limited times and keep your privacy.

Online chat gives us a platform to share our messages or share our mind in text from. The great significance of it is, it is absolutely free. It doesn't any cost. We need a computer with internet connection or we need a mobile phone with internet.
