Is it a ritual that we wish on the new years's eve or on the new year? Is it out of courtesy, happiness? What makes us wish for the new year. I feel an year has passed and another one has arrived just like it happens everyday. We do not wish our family every day saying Happy New day then why on a New Year. Please do not think I am crazy for starting this post. Today suddenly i thought about it and wished to know the views of my mylot friends. Please share your views. Happy mylotting and a Happy New Year ahead.

I agree with this logic. We contact our friends and relatives with this reason for wishing them a New Year. Thanks for sharing your views.

It is not a ritual, i believe. greeting each other on holidays, on special occasions are really as simple as greeting a person on his or her biorthday... we acknowledge the day of the person and greets him... and also it is as common as greeting someone hi or hello or good morning, good day whenever we see a friend, an officemate... it is a form of our greetings or acknowledging a person right? so it makes no difference when we do greet people on special occasions like Christmas, New Year, Independence Day... =)

You have not understood my question. I asked what makes us wish or greet another person on the new year. Some feel happy, some say it is culture. So what about you?

hello bewitched13,
with reference to your question, greeting somebody a happy new year is part of my culture. as this is how i was trained by my parents. that, to greet friends and relatives a "happy new year" whenever this occasion comes. aside from that, i somehow feel happy to greet people to have a happy new year.

Keep apart the culture and values taught by parents. Do we follow all the values taught by them. Certain things we do according to out convenience. You have said you feel happy and that can be a great reason to wish. Thanks for your response.

Everyone's greet and wish each other because of being grateful of that certain celebration! As a social animal, a person should interact with their relatives and friends and share with them the occasion. Even a normal day, we greet our loved ones a happy day.

We do not say happy day everyday to our family. Do we? Again new year is a normal event that happens every year. So what so special about it? Thanks for your response.

This is similar with question:
"Why do you greet for birthday?"
"Why do you greet for christmas?"
"Why do you greet for anniversary?"
"Why do you greet for independence day?
The answer is quite simple, right? Because it is a special day. Or in other word, because it is not happened everyday..

Birthdays, Anniversaries are all days that relate to a person personally. They feel happy when wished. But New year is something common for all. Then what so specific about it. Thanks for your kind response.
