Tarot cards: Do you believe in their power?

Religion beliefs aside, do you consider tarot cards as credible tools that can predict your future? 2 years ago, my friends and I went to a fortune teller. It's not black magic, the way I see it. The lady wasn't worshiping devils, of that I'm sure. All that the cards had revealed to us really happened. We were told that cards can tell us what to expect in the future. However, our fortune can be altered. The power entirely rests in us. When there is a card that reveals something undesirable happening in the future, we can avoid those undesirable events or, better yet, change them into good events. Personally, I think it's wise to have fun also while having your fortune foretold. It can help you prepare, plan ahead and prevent any event you do not desire. They can be painful, your fortune may not what you want or expect it to be, but knowing the truth is far better than being idle and clueless. To me, I believe we make our own future. I don't want to limit my knowledge of the future because it goes against some religious teachings. Some may not like having their fortune foretold for many reasons. That's completely fine, it's not a requirement anyway. So there, I believe in the cards' power, since I have seen and experienced the very fortune they have foretold in real life. Note: Some fortune tellers are skilled and accurate and some are not. Whether you believe them or not is entirely up to you. What are your views on this? Have you ever tried having your fortune foretold?

There is nothing special about Tarot cards or any other sort of divination. The power is in US not in the cards or the process! The cards just reflect what we are seeking or need to know. This is just the way The Univesre works. It is the Universal Law of Attraction in action. I use divination cards regularly to help me focus on what is important in my life here on the Earth plane. You always get the right card, sign or symbol that you NEED. A gifted Seer will just help to interpret any card or symbol that you turn up, to help you on your path to the fulfilment of your present life. Blessings on your path!

absolutely. and in different scenarios, the same card can have completely different meanings. everything happens in the mind of the reader. the cards are just a tool to help facilitate that.

Hehe, I'm glad that there are people here who look at divination in a positive light. Thanks to you both! Of course, it is US who has complete control over our own lives, the cards are just tools. However, not all fortune tellers are accurate at reading, it takes skill and some intuition.

no. I do not believe that printed bits of cardboard have any power whatsoever. but I do believe that some people are able to use those bits of card to access their own intuitive knowledge, and in doing so, can pass that information on to the recipient. I have never had much of a knack for tarot, but I do like the Brian Froud Oracle deck, which I was able to read in great detail for a friend the very first time I held a deck, without so much as glancing at the book. so I can see how Tarot works for those that connect with it.

Yes, i think a lot of individual intuition is required to use tarot cards correctly.

I did go for the Tarot card once. It was very expensive. Anyhow, most of the things she told was about something which I knew. For instance, the cards told me that my late father left some assets to his children and this was a truth. Actually, I went for tarot card reading because I needed some advices to make certain decission. Of course, I needed to have my own judgement in whatever final decission I were going to make. I am the one to decide my future.

oh my. I forgot that there are tarot card readers who really demands a high price from their customers. Lucky that our card reader was like a grandma to us, she was a friend of my boyfriend's mom. I agree with you. The tarot reader gives advices about the best possible course of action, what you should be avoiding in the future and things you might achieve if you work hard for them. Having our fortunes foretold is a necessity but an optional tool to use to prepare ourselves in the future. People like us, aeiou, like to see what is ahead. When we are told what is ahead, a little of our anxiety goes away and we are then more ready to face what's ahead of us.

I haven't tried and I think I will never try. I don't know as well whether I believe with one if in case someone laid her tarot cards to see my future. I have tried palm reading... it was from my college professor. We didn't asked him to read our palms, out of nowhere he just offered us if we wanted him to read our palms while me and another classmate is taking our tutorial from him. Some have happened, I only realized about it years after when I remembered him one day.

Yup but as much as possible I don't want to think about it. And that is the reason I had a hard time recalling one thing he said... and I only remembered few that has happened already. Sadly, I can never ask him again, I just learned that he passed away few years ago

oh... how sad. we can definitely live our lives without those things, anyway. so don't think about it if you don't want to.

it's strange how the interpretations from palm reading and card reading can come true sometimes.

A BIG NO!!!! The Tarot reader selects some random cards or asks you to do so, and predicts your future based on that??!! I mean if it isn't a joke, I don't know what is it . . .

have you ever tried going to a fortune teller who uses tarot cards? It's easy to speculate when you haven't experience them personally.

But still, anything related to astrology is stupid and baseless. Based on someone else's life, how can you predict mine? Everyone is different and has a different fortune altogether.

it probably is, however for people who just like thinking about the future and exploring ideas related to the future, astrology is a fun. there are instances that the predictions come true, now divination may have its merits. No one ever said that all have the same fortune. Clearly each person has his own fortune and future, his present action are the best indication of his future. No one's certain.

Reading your future through tarot card is one way to know what's ahead. Actually, I've tried knowing my future through tarot card, i have a friend who knows how to read it. It's just for fun. He let me picked some cards, and read what it means. He also let me asked some questions, that time i was going to take the board exam for nursing, so i asked if ever i'm going to pass. The tarot card said YES, well, that's according to him. I feel good about the result. It gave me a chance. But this is what happened, after i took the exam i waited for the result for a month, and then when the results came out. I Passed. Maybe it's just a coincidence. or i just prepared myself too well. You're future will always depend on you. You can change for the better or not. So don't depend on some fortune tellers. Let them just guide you to make some choices.

I think it was all you, tatzkie. You passed because of your own efforts and hard work, not because it was foretold. The power is in you. Simply feeling good and positive because of the result of your tarot card reading "you will pass" helps you want to make it come true. Now, the law of attraction is involved here.

I believe in the law of attraction. I also passed the nursing board exam and I have all the clinical instructors, reviewers, classmates, notes, books, God and many other people to thank because of it. People who believe they can achieve something will eventually achieve it, just as long as it is within the boundaries of reality, LOL.

yes, i think your right. It was all me. Before i asked him, i know that i will pass. The truth is that, I also believe in the law of attraction. Being positive about things will help get through it. Before i took the exam, i always say to myself "I will pass" "i will pass". LOL. Then it's there. i passed. What about you, do you believe in the law of attraction?

I also believe in the tarot's power to see the future. I will not the deny the fact that it really works, except that I've read in the bible that God does not wants us to practice it.

Hi Aja, I have to agree with you in that some people do a good job of foretelling the future, either with Tarot cards or by some other method. I don't know how they are able to do it and I believe there are many frauds out there who just want to take your money. Find someone who will do it for free, (there are those who do it as a hobby, or who just have an interest) and you might be amazed at how it all works out. Some people will tell your past and even if they are reading your mind, it's quite a feat. There is a lot that we do not understand and sometimes it's best to leave it that way. Blessings.

Yes, it can't be helped that some people can't just accept possibilities that are presented by any form of divination. i don't really worry about the payment, because it was really cheap and I had fun nonetheless. Many people don't believe in things simply because they can not understand them.

I have always wanted to have my cards read but up until now, I haven't got to try it. I had a lady at the fair here read my palm. I was waiting on her to "see" something about me that I am the only one that know about. If she saw it, I would believe that she was legit and not an actor. I thought it was a little odd that she gave me her number and hotel where she was staying. She wanted me to come by her hotel the next day. Maybe she seen what I was wanting her to and just didn't want to reveal it there. Or maybe she was a crook and wanted to rob me at her room..who knows? I didn't go though. I figure fate will come to me..lol. I think it would be fun to have my cards read.

How strange that woman is. I had my palm read two years ago and none of them were true. Haha, I actually forgot most of what she said. anyway, it's a good thing you did not go. That was really suspicious of her to invite you. It's better safe than sorry, neh?

As a Christian and firm believed in God I don't believe in such ways of life to ask for them what will be my life the other day or the next year to come? If you think wise those prediction they make is not true. They only assume what they think to make some for a living. Because if they are really true with their prediction why they are not predict on what luck that comes to their life. It doesn't mean that they predict things about their life to be always reading tarot card everyday? If they are their prediction is true...they can predict something to be a millionaire. Because they can predict what number in lotto games to be won the jackpot prize, right? I don't see anything real from those tarot readers or fortune teller

Can we not believe in God and in card reading possibilities as well? I don't know why you are asking me about them. I'm not living their lives, they are. I hope they could, because I would really take advantage of that LOL Of course you don't, because you never tried in the first place.

I believe that demons in the spirit realm, have the ability to manipulate things in the physical realm. Thus I believe that fortune telling is the product of manipulation by demons. I believe that demons do this for the purpose of drawing our attention away from G-d, because they hate him, and us.

I believe that the cards can be truthful and powerful. Years ago, I read the cards for myself. They were very bleak and predicted some very bad years for myself. I read them several times and each time I was given the same bad news. And I had some very difficult years. What the cards said to me came to pass. Things are greatky improved for me but I have never read tarot again. I think that there is some power to the cards in the right hands but I also believe they can be misused.

We can't tell all are frauds, but we can't identify the real truth tellers. I have much experiences that when i was in the temple one lady told me about the near future, first i believed only after returning from the temple i understand it was just a cheating.Another in my office one came and cheated me like telling about my bad coming future and he will do poojas for that. Better don't hear this type of sayings

here's the thing, people usually go for only two options: believe or not believe. I'm a cheater, so I believed in the possibilities, I prefer being open minded

As a Zen practitioner, I have to say that the past is gone and non-existent, and the future isn't yet. There is only now. I like the Zen tarot card, but they are not about telling a future that doesn't yet exist. They are about reflecting on how I relate to them in my mind.. Like the card of change, supports me in looking at how I am changing and the reality that the only thing certain in life is change. I prefer to look at what I experience as I see belief as something that may or may not be truth. Belief is always about something that isn't yet occuring. We need to use it, but I prefer not to let it use me. If someone were to ask me, "What's the time?" I would be very tempted to answer.. "an illusion..."_Derek

haha, yeah, there are people who think too much ahead and they tend to forget about the present. That's where they go wrong. for example: you think about your future as a millionaire. But daydreaming won't help you. You have got to work things out in the present, to lay out a good foundation for that dream. Change is the only thing that is constant. -nods- I believe in that as well, and i doubt anyone here can argue with that.

I have never had my fortune told. The closest has been to the message in a fortune cookie or a daily horiscope. Usually the horiscope is somewhat accurate for me.

Hello Aja, I too believe on astrology but i don't like to know my future from a palm reader or any astrologer as many of them just tell a lie to make money and they do it easily as no one knows about the future and whatever they say is taken for granted that it is truth. But indeed if someone gets to know his/her future definitely it helps a lot as they can get prepared for the bad things they are going to face in the future.

My mother laid them down a couple yearsago and it said that someone in the family was going to die. Me and my faher were surprised and weeks later my grandfather was in hospital fighting a fight he can't win. So he passed away, and at that moment I believed in the power of tarot cards. Your destiny is your destiny, but you can see them with the tarot cards.

I'm sorry I do not believe in Tarot Cards or their supposed power to foretell the future. I know there are people who do believe in Tarot cards and that's fine, but its a subject I do not believe in or partake of. Last time I had someone 'read' my tarot cards was in the mid 80s, and nothing they said was right.

You have nothing to be sorry about deadbeat. Tarot cards are a touchy subject, it's to be expected. And in this discussion, I already knew that many people would likely not believe tarot cards. Hmm, that tarot reader might be a fraud or not skilled enough to correctly interpret. It's just for fun and entertainment, simply taking it as such we wouldn't feel so bad if what they have foretold are not accurate at all.
