Do you have an addiction?

I believe most people have an addiction to either food or drink! My addiction is to chocolate covered almonds. If someone gives me a box of chocolate almonds I can't leave them alone until they are gone. I've tried hiding them. I've tried to ration them. Nothing works,so lately I'm buying regular almonds. I eat 3 at a time, a couple of times a day. This is working well, as long as there is no chocolate on them. Have you discovered your addiction. How do you manage it?

I wasn't intersted in smoking.Smoking is a bad thing. But I konw sometimes people are so tired under stress. So I don't want to persuade somebody to give up smoking. But if my friends ofen smoke, I will suggest them to eat some grapes which is good for your lung.I hope it can help you.

My mom loves chocolates with almonds too. And like you she usually hides it from my brothers but that is not to control her addiction - but for her to eat all of it. So far I have no addiction in foods. I eat everything I like as long as it satisfies my taste bud

I love chocolates as well but I don't really call it addiction. Addiction is something not really good at all. With me I just love eating chocolates when there are chocolates around but when I don't see chocolates I don't really go out of my way to buy. In fact I rarely buy chocolate. But friends give me chocolates and those are what I eat. I am happy they don't give me chocolates every day. At least that lessens my chocolate intake.

Yes, I can understand a love of chocolate that is not an addiction! What bothers me about chocolate covered almonds is not that I love to eat them, but that I can't stop even when I want to. Perhaps you can stop eating them before they are all gone- if you can then its not an addiction!

Bare hugs, I would really recommend u going finding a new addiction, addiction that is healthy. Those 3 years where I could not eat chocolate, I was tempted alot and I wont say I did not try to eat and then run to the doctor to get myself treated. But my mother got me strawberries. Strawberries were second best friend for me after chocolates. So i started having strawberries, in any way possible. Till now I am a strawberryholic but its never going to harm me because its a healthy addiction!
hehe, whats yours second best friend?

I wouldn't say it's a real addiction, but I guess I'd say I'm addicted to the internet & TV. I couldn't go more than a day without going online. And if I'm not online, then chances are, I'm watching TV

i love chocolate, especially chocolate with almonds too. I don't like 70% dark chocolate, it really taste bitter. If the chocolate does not have almonds, I look for almonds and chocolate and eat them at the same time. Some says that chocolate is not really that healthy especially if really causing you some health problems.

yes, it should be taken in moderation. Have you heard that some chocolates are toxic to cats and dogs? My friend told me, that i should not let my pets eat chocolate. Do you think this is true?

Hi barehugs, I seem to be doing better now, but I definitely had an addiction to chocolate. I've found that drinking more water and juices help. I have read that eating three plain almonds every day helps prevent cancer and I've been following it faithfully for over forty years. Blessings.

Dark Chocolate is my favorite, and when making chocolate covered nuts I'll melt some of my wife's semi-sweet baking chocolate, mix the nuts into it,and spread the mixture out on a cookie sheet until it hardens.
Lately however I've been avoiding this addictive mixture in favor of eating a few plain almonds each day. Like you I eat the almonds because they are supposed to be a very healthy addition to a daily menu.

I am a chocolate foodie. Most of my shopping when I am on holiday abroad will be chocolates. I have also learnt to make them. Chocolates put me on a high!

I know what you're saying, but I would be interested in learning if you are managing this "chocolate foodie" high, in a healthful manner?
For instance - it affecting your weight? What steps are you taking to maintain your health, or are you successfully fooling yourself into believing this is not a health risk?

I am aware of my limits and therefore know what to give up if I have to replace it with chocolates. My weight is fine.

hi there barehugs,
with reference to your main topic discussion, well, i do not have really an addition to any of those - between food and drink. As I love to eat any type of food and same with drinks. however, i have one thing addicted to do. and that is to earn more money. as in i will do my very best to earn more. either online activity, rendering services, selling goods or many other legal ways. and these are the things that i get addicted to. earning more is my addiction.

barehugs..There are days when I feel I can't control anything with sugar...I have found if I get sugarless chocolate or candy I do not feel compelled to eat the 'whole bag'
If you can substitutte plain almonds then you are definitely very disciplined..I congratulate you

i always found if i bought anything containing chocolate i would just eat it all, as its so nice. so i just don't buy anything sweet any more.
though i did deal with a few issues, which may well have had the effect of reducing my urge to comfort eat anyway, so its not necessarily all down to willpower.

Chocolate is my worst addiction. I've managed to quit smoking, I drink once or twice a month, but I could NEVER give up chocolate!

I wish I could get more addicted to myLot because that is a healthy addiction I think!! I worry about my husband because all he seems to do is smoke and drink coffee. I just wish he would drink more water to balance it out a little! It's great you quit drinking so much!

Oh I know what you mean about chocolate covered almonds, they are certainly delicious! Fortunately for me, almonds are a little too rich, so I can only eat a handful before I don't want anymore. My dad is the opposite though and his addiction sounds very similar! He can easily put away a whole box of chocolate-covered almonds if I leave him to it haha. He also enjoys chocolate-covered pecans in the form of those chocolate-covered turtles. They are really something special, especially with caramel in the middle!!
I have many food addictions haha.. but in terms of chocolate, I definitely can't get enough of those chocolate-covered raisins!! They are so delicious and make the perfect snack for me. Fortunately there are quite a few health benefits, especially if I buy the dark chocolate covered ones. Not only do I get the endorphins and good feelings from the chocolate taste, but I also get the anti-oxidants of both chocolate and raisins. Raisins also help with fiber, and of course have loads of Iron, and micronutrients! Still.. it is so easy to down a whole box of them, so I have to portion how much I allow myself to eat whenever I buy them. Well, good luck!
