The Stop Online Piracy Act is something that can change the Internet and restrict out right to Free Speech. There could be very severe consequences to this Act if its passed. Sites like Facebook, Flickr, Twitter could be shutdown at any instant.
So What is SOPA?
"The U.S. congress is debating dangerous legislation that would give the Department of Justice unprecedented power to "blacklist" websites without a trial and give Hollywood copyright holders a new way to shut down a website’s financial services for alleged copyright infringement. It’s nothing short of a bill to create a U.S. censorship regime, and it’s moving fast."

I am against SOPA because the goverment will have the ability to spy on the internet downloading habits of users because they MIGHT be downloading illegal files off the internet.

Oh yes, I've heard about it. It has actually far more sinister implications than actually stopping piracy. This is a common trick used by our government, trying to mask a bill behind a more benevolent task such as eliminating piracy. There will be websites that will be banned for the reasons that they say and also the reasons that they will not say.
Yet the truth is more sinister. They want to control the flow of information on the Internet. It starts as something like piracy, but there will be websites that will vanish. For reasons other than piracy. They will claim that is the reason. However part of the reason is that Hollywood refuses to get with the times and also, Congress is playing along, because it allows them to regulate the only flow of information that they could not previously.
If this bill passes, then it proves that "freedom" is only a word used as lip service by the United States to look itself look more superior. Piracy as bad as it is is only a smoke screen for a far more sinister act. Of course, I doubt this bill will pass but the fact it got this far is rather alarming and just shows how little the government really does think about the people that voted them into those cushy positions.

i dont think it as a right measure to accomplish something needful.obviuosly piracy needs to be stopped but this is not the right way.the government should formulate some other way.by now the facebook has become an integral part of every person.hey but is there any point that would help resticting piracy by banning facebook?i dont think so.
i had not actually heard the term but was a little aware of the topic.
