The Movement of TOEFL score 600 in BPKM

The Minister of Commerce who is also Head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan launched the 'Movement of TOEFL 600' for employees. To BKPM who had already been applied, is now known to almost half the employees have a TOEFL score above 600.
"In the BKPM has been done. It starts now there are zero employees 258 employees 600 TOEFL above it. Proud of it? Thank God," Gita answered many question from the journalist..
Gita reveals, prior to the TOEFL exam at the BKPM, are given training in advance. And the result, almost half of the 580 employees BKPM has the amazing results of the TOEFL test in the top 600.
The plan, similar rules will be applied to a young civil servant in the Ministry of Commerce. According to Gita, the rule would only apply to echelon II downward, and not apply for the echelon I.
wow..i think it`s good planning and effort..i agree too with Gita Wiryawan reason why he must apply this good progamm..
he believe that the civil servant of his ministry always talk to foreign people bith of journalist or maybe buyer or another civil servants from another country..
Good program..i think another institutions must applied too this program..we are proud of course if our civil servant really smart and can speak in many foreign language..

that very silly idea. why doesnt mr gite make policies which force corruption to slower rate, and make more investen program. may be he is a smart, but that is very persoal. he holds public figure and has very decisive position. he think english will make jobs be done well in a second

oh my god..unbelieveable..
i think this policy is not popular because maybe so many task must be done by Mr Gita wirjawan..
but can you imagine if the test give the result and can influence as overall to performance of the Civil servant in under Mr Gita wirjawan??
like you said that it`s impossible only join or follow one test of TOEFL if never practise, but i think it`s better do something than did not do something

It is stupid idea my friend. We can not just boost people ability in speaking just by increasing their TOEFL to 600 (which is unsure it is true TOEFL or just TOEFL like test). They will stay speak in Indonesian language and keep forgetting how to pronounce well in English.
Make it English day in the office, and make them pay if not speaking in English will result better (sure, there should be a training first).
I ever got high TOEFL-like score, but my pronounciation is falling day by day because I rarely use it. My current boss prefer to speak in Indonesian rather than in their mother language.

what kind of TOEFL test is taken? True TOEFL test or only TOEFL-like test. I can easily pass TOEFL-like test, but not for true TOEFL test.
Moreover how much it cost when taking true TOEFL test? it cost $135 (at 2007) per head. So imagine the cost for at least 500 people which is $ 67500 (more than IDR 600 million). You can spend it for other thing that have more impact to society.
Why do not make sure that new government employee must have true TOEFL score 600 (so there is no bribery anymore)?
Why do not look at our neighbor Philippines? They can speak English better than us although most of the officer did not take any TOEFL test. Most of their government and private officer sector (even small groceries store) which I encounter can speak more fluently than I am. And I am sure they never take TOEFL test (why? they still speak, sometimes, in Spanish or Tagalog accent)

i myself think this is good effort..
all government officer (for me) must master several another language..
why?? remember the trade era had come..how come they want to speak with another people from foreign country??
actually all of us need for mastering english language , not only government officer..
but i think its few step and i support this policy

let us separate case per case..in the main problem for civil servant service quality beside their poor integrity, mostly of civil servant had no good abilities (computer literate and language ability)..and i agree that Mr Gita is aware of that..
now we are talking about the private company problem.
maybe in your office the problem is not like the mostly of civil servant problem,..because i believe some of private workers must master several language and must know how operate computer..it`s basic need if we want to work in private area...
if you want to talk about infrastructure, the problem become so complicated..not only government must talk it..sometimes the government policy is depends on the situation of the place..so the people reaction too can influence the decision about infrastructure..

It is true that we must act. But please do not spend too much money for something like TOEFL test. My workplace already had difficulty not because of language problems. But infrastructure problem. We experienced Natural Gas problem in the last 6 months. And Next Year there are rumor that the gas and electric cost will increase. This is not yet mention the condition of road that very bad, especially around Porong (due to Lapindo mud).
Even my workplace already build new factory at China and Malaysia where everything can be cost a half of Indonesian cost. I am only afraid that my workplace will be shutdown...
You know the most important thing to attract foreign investor is the infrastructure (energy, road, port/harbor, transportation, etc) and support (material supply, steady supply of material and energy). Language is a second thing. Although we can speak fluently, they will never come if the manufacturing cost is very high.

yess, im very agree..is now a foreign into its own demands, such as my office. English language with a requirement for active people who work like me that is the secretary, but until now i still difficult to speak english fluently, it was very disturbing my work, where i must interact with the outside world. :-(

c`mon..you must work hard and learn hard..english is not our mother language, so yes, we must spend so many time for learning it..
don`t easily give up..try and try..
you can use mylot as one of the tool for improving your english..
