My New Years Was Crazy...

So new years I worked 8 hrs at the grocery store. 3 hours later I worked for 6.5 hours at the village bar. As I was getting ready to leave the bar my friend's mom came in very worried because she could not find my friend, her daughter. She had been at the bar earlier and left her coat there but no one saw her leave. I live way up north and it was -40 celcius last night. I immediately got warm clothing on and joined the search.
I found my other friends on the street. They were still a little drunk and really upset. People were walking on the river looking for her. Even the RCMP was out looking for her. Finally after an hour we came across the RCMP and they informed us that she had been found at someone's house.
I got to the house I was housesitting for at around 5am. I tried to go to sleep but the dog I was looking after was running around and whinning... I didn't get to sleep until 6am. The dog then woke me up barking and whinning at 9:30am. I then noticed that while I was sleeping he had grabbed my cellphone from the bed and chewed it up. It is beyond repair.
I then let the dog outside because he wouldnt be quiet. I fell asleep in exhaustion and didnt wake up until 2pm. I couldn't find the dog and had to run around in -30 looking for him. I couldn't phone any friends as my cell phone was destroyed and all my contacts are in it. My neighbour was going to drive me around to look for him when the dog showed up at the door.
Honestly this new years sucked and all the money I made is going to have to go into buying a new cell phone.
how was your new years?
I HOPE IT was better.

Mine was indeed better. I am very glad all the people and dogs got found, but sorry about your cell phone. However, I believe you didn't like that phone much anyway and want a better one!
I love my smart phone and was going to buy another just like it. I had a chance to get one for $150 and decided that was too much and I would wait for a better deal. Now they are $450. I was supposed to get a free upgrade March of 2012 and now there is a rumor they are not doing that anymore. So maybe should not have waited.

oh i just get the cheapest phone possible. I'm not interested in gadets and gizmos. I found one online for $75. I ordered it and it should be here in a week. I just hope I can use it up here.

Same here.
I too had a very simple new year .
Infact I did not even go out anywhere. Just kept lying in bed near to myself.
Sometimes i feel like the new year is just another simple day in your life. these are the events made by we humans to give ourselves a reason to be happy.
Excluding that there is nothing special in this day.

I too was looking after a dog, my next door neighbours dog got out of their yard so I brought him into my place until they got home, so it was a quiet New Years Eve for me and this dog didn't eat my phone so I was lucky.

That was very nice of you to take care of your neighbour's dog. I think I want to do absolutely nothing next year. It would be nice to have a quiet new years eve after this one.

Wow! I thought my New Year's Eve was crazy but not after reading yours. I too worked an 8 hour shift at our local grocery store then had to go back because I forgot to pick up the sodas and munchies for my 15 year old's birthday party. Yes, I have a New Year's Eve baby. Then I had about 10 teens over to celebrate her birthday. I was the last one to sleep and the first one up on New Year's Day because I had to be back to work. Did get off of work 45 minutes early, which was nice because I wanted to get home and catch the Raven's game!
Hope you find a good deal on a cellphone.

Best buy is having a sale online. I found a cell phone for $75 and they will ship it for free. I just have to wait two weeks to get it. I'm happy... If I bought one locally it would be minimum $100 for the cheapest oldest flip phone.

I'm very glad that your friend is safe and that you are starting the new year healthy and sound!
That's strange about the dog unless he initially needed to go to the bathroom when you first arrived home. That may have been the problem, poor dog. But you have learned to not leave your cell phone within reach of animals or children, right? Sorry, not really funny, but things like that have happened to me before, too.
You don't have to spend lots of money on a cell phone. Simplify your life. Get a very basic phone like mine. It doesn't text, doesn't connect to the internet, it just makes and receives calls. It cost me $30 and came with 300 minutes which means that the phone was really free. I have Net 10 but there are many such providers. I buy minutes at 10ยข each and use the phone only for emergencies so I have a LOT of minutes saved up! That's one good thing, you don't lose minutes if you don't use them. So my phone costs $15 a month, very affordable. And if I need more minutes I can buy them. Even if I needed 600 minutes a month it would be much less than a multi-function phone with its monthly charges.
Look at the bright side--you can use this inconvenience as an opportunity to save money every month and simplify your life. I hope it works out to be a positive thing for you whatever you do!

Thanks for your advice. Because of where i live we are very limited on what cell phones we can use. Only certain networks work here. I just use prepaid which is $15 a month for unlimited text messaging in Canada. I use text messaging because I live in a tiny village and its long distance to call people. I'm from Vancouver which is a long way away from where I live right now. Its very important for me to keep in touch with my family and friends.
I did find a phone online for $75. best buy was having a sale. they can ship it to me.
Um this dog is annoying... he wants to go outside all the time. He's big and needs to run around but he lives in a tiny appartment. Its -40 outside so I'll let him out and then its too cold so he wants back in 10 minutes later. He whines and scratches at the door until I let him out.
Last night I tried to take everyone's advice with not having important electronics within the dogs reach. I had to use my laptop as my alarm clock. There was no place where he couldnt get at it so I had a choice. Either I sleep in the bathroom on the floor or try locking him in there. I locked him in the bathroom with his bed and some treats. It didn't work. he just whinned and barked for 30 minutes straight. He also was running against the door and scratching it. I was concerned that he would damage the door so I let him out.
Luckily he didnt have a taste for electronics last night.

I finally solved my need for a new phone, without having to spend money.
I applied for a 350 post paid plan on a network. Other than the unlimited call and text to same network, it has a 250 free texts to other network. And the cellphone i chose on that plan is Dual Sim.
At least, i can retain my existing other network sim , same as that of my daughter and the post paid unlimited call and text is the same as the network of my hubby.
See, i solved the need for money to buy a new phone.

My new year was uneventful. I went to church on New Years day, and that was it.
