I was a heavy smoker too.
I consistently exercise and take deep breath to stop me from smoking.
It is very helpful.
After having exercise as jogging, painting home, mopping floor and so on for hours, I start realizing the important of the fresh air that I need to breath.
Smoke will be a dirty air to me.
Until now, I totally quit smoking.

The first and foremost requirement for quitting smoking is mental strength. If you have the mental strength that you can quit it, it would never be a problem to you to quit. But if you are lacking in your mental strength, you can only think and make plans for quitting but you can never achieve it.

A smoker, for that matter a heavy one for years together...I could stop smoking all of a sudden. A decision to achieving the end was taken abruptly and I could stick on to it. It is more than four years now since I freed myself from the bad habit.Hence it is YOU and you only who can take a firm decision on the matter and stand firmly on it. Good luck.

smoking is harmful to our health. everyone `knows that ,however, it seems as if smoking is so hard to deal with and to get rid of . In my opinion, to get rid of it as soon as possible mainly depends on one's determination.

Hello Jakeyangchao,
Addictions are difficult to get rid of but not an impossible task only thing is you need to have the strong will power.I myself was a smoker 4~5 years back but quit smoking once i wanted to quit it.Even i have seen chain smokers too leaving this addiction once they had decided to leave it.So make your will power strong and decide that you won't smoke from the next day.

Try looking for a solid reason to stop. it's all about conviction and your determination to stop. Do you have a family? Think about what will they feel if you would die. Think of what they will do and what will happen to them if your lung collapses due to nicotine and you get hospitalized for weeks. Can they sustain your bills. Think of your future.

Only yourself has the power to quit smoking. If you are determined and true to yourself you can stop it.Let yourself indulge to something else like exercising.REMEMBER: smoking kills you every seconds of your life.Life is beautiful to end just because of smoking.

Well, that's a great news my friend because you realized smoking ain't gonna do good in your body, but again, the main problem is, how to get rid of it ?
My advice is that you should seek help to Doctors, because they have guidelines and step on how to do that ..
But if you have the determenation and the WILL to do it, nothing is impossible ..
I pray you will completely stop and quit smoking :)

Hi jakeyangchao. I am not a smoker myself, so I am not going to say I know what you are going through. I can only tell you what I have physically seen with friends and family, and how some of them have beaten the smoking habit.
The first rule is, you have to stop because YOU want to stop. If you stop because you just know you have to, or because you want to please someone else, it becomes just about impossible. This is when you get headaches, you get irritated and unpleasant to be around. Be honest with yourself. Do not try to convince yourself that you want to stop, while it is not really what you WANT to do. That kind of self talk never works. So decide what the real reason is why you want to stop, and be serious and honest about it.
Try to replace smoking with a new habit (a healthy one obviously), so every time you get get the urge to smoke, it is replaced by the new habit (eg. eating fruit or something)
I have seen many people seriously trying to quit the smoking habit without any success. And then one day they just get serious about it. THEY want to quit smoking. They know WHY they want to quit. They decide to do it, and they do, right there and then. I have seen this happening without the headaches, irritation and all the other symptoms.
I am not saying it will be easy, but I do hope this might benefit you.
Best of luck.
