Extra effort to get extra money,

I am working as a freelancer for an employer from odesk. She had given me 2 weeks to promote her page on facebook and to give her 1000 likes in due time. I thought we had agreed for a specific amount that she offered. At first, I doubted because she offered me the amount more than what I expected But still, I continued to work for it thinking this could be true. When I finished the task in due time, she said, she will just gave me 4 dollars. I was shocked and I cannot believe that she will just gave me 4 dollars for all the effort and time that I wasted. She said, it was a fair compensation for me and that in the market, they usually offer 3 dollars for 1000 likes. Is this true? It was a small amount for me. It can't even afford to pay my internet connection. Please give me some advice on how can I deal with this problem.

I don't know how much exactly market price for this but from my experience in task job (in this site or other sites), at least employer should pay minimum $10 ($.01 X 1000 likes .... promotion not included). Look under value to me.
Don't take job from that employer anymore ....

Really, a minimum of $10? How much time did you spent when working with this likes? I would not take any jobs from that employer again.

If it was on oDesk, report it to the admins. Send them copies of all the emails in which she promises a particular wage. oDesk contracts are legally binding so, assuming you have something as written evidence, she'll have to pay what she promised.

That was one that I regretted, I am not able to save our conversation. She said she can be trusted and I trusted her that I forgot to save our agreement. Now, I am confused and bothered on how to get my earnings that she was no longer returning my emails.

If you got the mails through a service like Gmail, you might still be able to retrieve them (you could even ask their support people). I get my mail through Outlook and was surprised to see that Gmail still stores a ton of stuff I didn't ask it to. Look for messages in your "sent" folder, for example, which may have her replies to previous emails stored with them. That kind of thing.
Without those emails, you have no proof and you're screwed: you can send a case to oDesk (I would, even if there's no proof: you can at least cast the eye of suspicion on her) but you won't have much chance of getting your proper pay.

My problem was that, we agreed for the payment while we were chatting on yahoo messenger, not in my email. I was not able to save our conversation. When I tried to report this to odesk, somehow I found it useless. I cannot retrieve my payment until she herself got her conscience back and give me the money. But if she will not be able to pay me back, then it's okay. Besides, I have no proof, it was my fault. The next time I will be able to save all conversation regarding online jobs. It's just I have to learn from my own mistake, charge as experience. Thanks for the concern SpikeTheLobster!

I think that she should abide by her offer to you. You have it in writing in an email? Then can you report her to ODesk? As long as you fulfilled your end of the deal, she needs to give you the agreed upon rate. Good luck to you.

You could try contacting Yahoo and ask for a log of your conversation on particular days. They're not obliged to help but they might if you explain the problem. Worth a try, at least!

We have agreed my payment only on yahoo messenger. I not able to save it, that was my greatest mistake. I just hope that she can respond to my emails for us to discuss this matter. Just hoping.

I just hate to work with people that doesn't have a word of honor. They should follow what was negotiated and you're unfortunate to have an employer who's cheating you. Don't worry,it will come back on him/her. Just don't accept any offers from him now. Sometimes online works are that,we are being paid or not. So if your employer insisted that payment, might as well just accept it or nothing at all then let this be a lesson for you. Always make sure that you're gonna have proofs next time so when you report it to the admin, they will see your point. Try to save all the conversations you're gonna make with your employer next time. I've read your replies to some of your discussions here that's why I've known that you were not able to save your conversation.
I just hope he/she will pay you according to what you've already negotiated before.

Hi neel_ahuja! Yes, I have tried to explore my conversation history but all I retrieved was our most recent conversation. The other conversations were not saved. There's no way I can have my proof, but I'm getting into my acceptance stage. Thanks by the way. :)

They usually offer 3 dollars for 1000 likes?
I think that's not true. You can compare it with gigs on Fiverr: http://fiverr.com/gigs/search?query=facebook+like&x=0&y=0
In average it is $5 for guaranteed real 400-1000 likes.
By the way, how much did she promise to pay at first?
And lastly, better don't accept any works from that kind of employer again..

This is seriously so bad. But in case of online earning , there is no written commitment as to what task creator will pay you. You should definitely report this tot he admin.
