Did You Get What You Wanted Over Christmas?

I know Christmas isn't all about presents but - let's face it, without them most people wouldn't bother with it, such is the materialistic world we live in.. Anyway, I digress. I've done well over Christmas as I've received stuff I've liked. This included a rather nice wooly cardigan that's more like a jacket from Mum. I shall never be cold ever again wearing it! She also got me a matching scarf that is an all-in-one thing. It's probably called something else but I can stretch it so it wraps around my neck (some would argue I should pull it tight to strangle myself lol) and the rest dangles down..oo-er. It is in my avatar actually, if you look close enough! I've also got some matching boot-slippers that come right up my calf, they're brilliant oh, and not forgetting the Lancome stuff that I had to order myself online as it wasn't in the shop. My brother has given me £50, £45 of which is still in my purse. I just can't decide what to do with it. If I put it in the bank it will only go on bits and bobs and nothing significant. I am thinking of buying a wall-clock for above the fireplace as the one there at present has BROKEN. Whoopee! Couldn't stand the wretched thing so it gives me a good excuse to buy another one! Even my SIL has bought me a 3 disc Magnum CD compilation which amazed me as she's normally crap at buying presents, not only for me but for other people. I reckon she must've asked John what she should buy. Good for her! I shall play them when John goes back to work on Thursday. I did wear the top John bought me again on Christmas Day (also on my avatar pic) and on New Year's Eve, a night where I got blotto and spent a few hours snoring fully-clothed on my bed before deciding to get up, have a wash and put my nightshirt on. Fully recovered now though oh, and Carlisle won their first home game of 2012 on 2nd January, along with Blackpool..so that cheered me up.

Hiya Janey, I did not get anything at all hardly ever do except for a lot of moans and groans lol. Hows that for a Present something you have to put up with when you have these lot around you. They don´t really like Christmas except for the going out bit so I can´t really expect any other. Of course they have the cheek to complain when I don´t buy them anything of course I have not had any spare cash at all living here is much more expensive as well but I will work my way round that one as well. Me I always celebrate Christmas my own way and let them get on with it. I understand them whereas others would not and that is called giving and taking. Hope you get your Clock on the Wall I love them all except for those terrible Cuckoo Clock the ones that go off every half an hour you know.xxx Happy New Year Janey and I can see you had a great Christmas I don´t really need presents I have enough with just being me lol.xxx

Hiya Janey, Awww that is really nice of you not that these lot are Scrooges they are just not the Christmas types lol and you have to live with it as well. Yes the V.A.T. which they are quietly sneaking in here a 22 per cent by about March or so and we have no choice at all like you over there if you don´t want to spend the V.A.T. price well you have to leave it. The V.A.T. is present even when you buy Food at least it is here quite steep too. I love dark Chocolate thank you very much lol just kidding.xxx Those awful Cuckoo Clocks I felt like taping it in when I was in my Mom´s House the last time lol. xxx

Haha! Actually, my new clock does have an audible tick but it's not annoying. In fact, I quite like it. Sometime during Saturday I'm definitely going to buy a new iron with the rest of my Christmas money. It's not the most glamourous of things to research on the internet but I've managed it. I've narrowed it down to three, 2 in Comet and the other in Argos and luckily the stores are next to each other so I can ponder which one I'm going to get.

Awww! I'm trying to think what I would buy you if you were more local..it would have to be something English like a load of sweets and chocolate! Any good? I know what you mean about some clocks having annoying ticks and chimes. I did indeed pick the radio controlled clock up from Argos and at £8.99 it's an absolute BARGAIN, as the RRP is £19.99. So chuffed with myself! I'm toying with the idea of buying a new clothes airer next as our (very old) wooden one is a bit rickety and on the verge of breaking altogether. However, £16.99 isn't cheap for a new one is it? Why they have to be so expensive I don't know..probably that bloody awful 20% VAT which I HATE paying on virtually everything I buy!

I got what I anted most of all. I had my children with me on new years weekend. I also had gotten from my girl, the Steve Jobs book. I already started to read it. And of course, some money. But the best present was having my kids with me on new years. We had a blast. I also spent new years day recovering from that night. Happy New Year.

Hello Janey1966, I got what I wanted for christmas also, a visit with my granddaughter. I had to drive for 13 hours each way to see her but it was worth every hour. My daughter and I drove out to see the family for christmas. We drove all day friday and had saturday and sunday with the family and then drove all day monday to come home. My granddaughter just turned 2 years old and I only get out to see her about 3 times a year so it was a special time for me. I won't get to see her again till June this year because of work and then again at christmas so only twice this year, unless I can talk them into coming out to see me. My son doesn't like to travel anywhere so I can't get him to come here. I moved away in 2001 and he has never been to my city, so I have to go to him to see them. Anyways, I had a great christmas and spent 2 whole days with her and we did the family christmas dinner on christmas day and it was great too. We have a rule in our family that after the child is 18 years old we don't do a gift anymore. We did this because we all had too many kids to continue giving gifts forever and a lot of the nieces and nephews have kids of their own so we do gifts with them now instead. So very few kids to open gifts so it isn't a big part of our celebration anymore. We are more into the family thing now than the gift giving thing now and I like it better. Less pressure. As it is it costs me quite a bit of money to take time off of work and to drive out to winnipeg, the gas alone cost me $250. It is nice to hear you had a good christmas and got what you wanted. Cheers and TTYL my friend , Chris

I had no interest in the sopranos until the repeats on C4 a few years back and i watched a few and i was hooked. I have been watching 3 or 4 episodes a night now, I missed a lot of them when they were on the telly. If you seen Goodfellas you will like the Sopranos, its a modern day version of it. And half price in HMV at the moment. It's the 6th of Jan already, this year is going to fly by too All the best for yourself and john and your loved ones this year

I'm glad you got everything you liked! I usually don't. But this year, I did! It was very surprising. I feel bad when I don't like something someone gives me. IT's like 'If you want to spend money on me, get me something I like. And if you don't know what I like, a gift card is fine or nothing at all. I understand.' I just can't stand to see the item go to waste and I feel bad returning it! I got the Kindle Fire and a lot of stuff for my dorm room which I'll be moving into on January 19th. Underwear, socks, laundry baskets, clothes, etc. Hey, they're useful items and I was happy to receive them!

I'd love a laundry basket..seriously! We're using one of those ottomans and it doesn't seem right somehow! Is a Kindle Fire one of those tablet thingies? I'd love one of those as well although a basic Kindle would be nice...alas, not this time.

It's one of those cheap laundry baskets. But hey, if it works, it works! I have a giant basket at home that I use as a laundry basekt. This one is more of a temporary thing that has handles that I can carry down the stairs of my dorm. And yes, it is one of those table things. But it doesn't work outside the US yet. It's one of the cheaper ones on the market too. $199.

I also got presents this (or last) christmas. For christmas, I got to spend time with my family as well. For presents I got 2 pairs of clothing and 1 towel. I also got money as I am trying to save up for a soda stream. So far, with the money I got, I think I could afford one. I also got best buys and restaurants gift cards so I can go out and eat. My dad is also giving me a Dr Dre Beats laptop (hopefully), or any laptop that may be cheaper price. I am trying to get it from best buy so I can pitch with the gift cards I got from best buy.

I asked for, and got, mostly gift cards so I can gas up at Walmart in hopes that I will have a job before I run out of that money... My sister also found the one piece of jewelry I really wanted from mom's stuff, I was very excited and have worn it several times already. My sister was in town in mid-Dec and she went through a lot of the boxes that my brother has been storing in his loft. I brought 3 boxes over, mostly with sheets and other stuff like that, but some of her little treasures that I, sentimental fool that I am, wanted. I went through those boxes tonight because it was something I could do inside and still feel like I was getting something accomplished.

It's great you got what you wanted. Good for you. I believe Gift Cards are the most popular presents in the US (from what they said on Fox News recently), is this true? I believe there have been fraudulant activities with them too, even before people receive them. I don't know if that happens over here as there hasn't been a news report about it..but I'm glad your Gift Cards are OK.

I didn't ask for very much this Christmas, because I know that I just need every bit of extra money that I can possibly get my hands upon. I chose to ask everybody for money this year as I have to be able to save up for a flat that I would like to purchase sometime in the next year. I also got some lovely things for using in the shower, and some dye for my hair which I would love to use very soon. In addition to this, I also got some new nightwear and a new pair of trousers and a nice top. I have been losing a lot of weight at the moment and desperately need some new clothes to match up with my new figure!

I wish I could lose more weight, to be honest. The problem with me is that I'm not active enough and I don't really like going anywhere on my own (other than the shops) and I can't go there as I usually don't have any money to spend! It sounds like you have lots of nice things that you really wanted and that's a great idea wanting money, especially when you have something in mind for it. Good for you!

Electronic that I really wanted - HD-PVR that I wanted
I'm always happy and grateful receiving gifts, birthdays and Christmases. But I'm also realistic that most of the things I get, are really not the things I wanted in the first place. So, it's alway up to me to make sure that I get at least one thing that I really like. This Christmas was no different. I wanted something electronic, but nobody thought of it, or nobody could afford it. But I'm happy to say that I still got one (even though it involved me paying for it)!

It seems like you got a lot of cool stuff. I was happy with what I got. I don't really expect much but I got the last remaining three seasons of Will and Grace that I was missing and I got a gift card for Barnes and Nobles and some perfume as well as a CD I wanted. So I am really happy about that. It's not all about the material stuff so I'm always happy with what I get for Christmas.

CHristmas is not yet done, we still have to exchange with my parents. So far so good. My sister in law got me a gift certificate for a one hour massage for a salon in my town. I wanted school supplies to replace all of the ones that have already been consumed. My mother in law bought me a ton of post its in different sizes and colors, along with restocking my colored pens (I refuse to grade in normal blue, red or black). I also got $100 in Amazon credits to go with my Kindle (a hand me down but still works). My daughter got entirely too much.

I would love a Kindle, I must admit and if I had the money I'd probably buy my brother one first as he reads a lot and it would be a way of reading more but without the clutter, if you get my drift.
3 Jan 12
Yes I got what I wanted for christmas, and it wasn't the latest this that and the other, sure I got a couple of DVDs and some music, and that's lovely, but what I really needed was a rest after a hard year, and a bit of time to spend with my family, that is worth more than anything else I can think of. It's been really nice to stop dashing around (after the shopping obviously) and enjoy family time.
