Yesterday i accompany my grandmother to her doctor for her monthly check up and her twice a year overall laboratory check up. When we get to the Laboratory i saw how scared she was that her face flush and thought for once that she will faint any moment. She is 85 years old and her skin is so sensitive the the nurse also got scared when she took the needle in my grandma's skin. The blood did not stop for flowing after they got 10 ml of sample blood from her.It took them 2 minutes and 5 cotton balls to stop the blood for flowing. Not too much but scared my grandmother that she kept calling my great grandma's name and prayed. I was holding her face so she won't see that blood isn't stopping but accidentally she had a glimpse. Good thing i was there with her,she gripped on my hands the whole time and i know she is taking energy from me. Honestly,i wish she don't have to do that again. But since she is so brave to have all those to have more years with us,i am so much willing to be with her again having those check ups. Are you also afraid of medical needles like my grandmother? What do you do when you need to face those?

I am little afraid of those needles because it makes me to cry. I remember those days when I was injected by using a needles. At my chilhoods days I was very scary about these ones. I used to cry when I hear about theses things. My parents know well that I am very scary on theses things so they just used to make me afraid by telling CALL THAT DOCTOR, LET HIM INJECT YOU. They used to tell these words when I do something wrong. I am feeling funny when I think of it

Hi! Your Grand mother's apprehensions, at this age, are understandable. I think some people feel afraid of needles when they are inserted in their flesh. However, now a days very fine needles are being used, which do not hurt as the earlier needles used to hurt. I do not feel any problem with the latest very fine needles. What about you? Have a great day ahead.

Don't feel scared of needles ........ ........as these hurt you momentarily and for fraction of a second. Next time when you visit your Doctor, please ask him about the availability of fine needles.

Hi tamirs Some doctors are great. They know the right angles when inserting the needles and others just make a mess of those. I love that feeling when the needle gets into the skin and draws blood. But there are some incidents where I have seen that doctors are quite cruel and mishaps occur. The last time was painful though as the doctor did not get the TT injected into me the right way. But yes, I love the ones at Hyderabad where I go yearly for my checkups specially the one that gives me a cooling feeling in the vein before I fall asleep... I wish to have that more often

Thick Skin Whatever. I love that twitch feeling though. And I am quite a tough guy I had stitched my own wound way back in 1999 - 4 stitches done at home. Actually I am quite scared of blood but then it was an instance when I had a slit vein and being a national holiday, everything was closed and even no one was at home - I tried to tie the upperside of the slit but that seemed impossible to do with one hand. The scars of the stitches are still on my left arm, near the elbow. Later when I met the doctor to get it done the right way, he lectured me a lot but I simply told him I dont want to die losing and seeing all the blood in me (it is only 6 liters inside) flowing out like a stream. Since that day, I have become a little daring though. Nothing about the think or carabao skin... just a survival thing. And today, I cannot get rid of those injections as my illness is for life and it does mean a yearly checkup. Last year (2011) I escaped the injection as when I arrived at the hospital, the doctor was on leave and we returned back without meeting. I thought it was all okay, but then, the Eagle incident happened and my wife forced me to get those stitches and injection on... So no escape

Sid,i am sure that you skin is much thicker than grandma's :p Here they call that carabao skin lolz. And of course you won't get mad at me because you know that i am just kidding right? :-D I personally hate injections so i know how grandma feels and i really hate seeing people around me having to undergo such situation.Makes my heart break, but because it needs to be done, what we can do is to just be there and give comfort.Maybe because you are used to having injections that is why you love them doing it to you. :-D And of course you know that it will help you a lot everytime. Hopefully you have a lesser injection and finally none this new year.

I am not afraid of injections. In fact, whenever i have my CBC taken, i don't like them to use the "prick", the ones they use to extract blood for the blood sugar count. I always request that they instead use the needle to take my blood. I fear the "prick" so much, because the pain it causes into my finger seemed so painful and it's throbbing!

:-D That really makes finger throb but i'd rather have that than injection. My grandma said that its just like ant bite but whats scared her is that it looks like thousands of ants bit her. I had those four 8 times but i still am scared doing it.

Hi tamirs I can imagine the look on your granny's face. As I have been with a friend and some other whom I met in a hospital before for blood samples. Some even have to close their eyes. I do that sometimes as well but I am not that much afraid of needles.

I am not afraid of needles, but my Sister is and she will faint as well if she sees blood. I will go to her everytime she needs an injection. I'll ask her not to look and let her hold my hand, but sometimes she squeeses my hand so hard that I will be the one who scream in the clinic, LOL! It's very kind of you to be with your Grandma and support her.
