they said a person will have a bad eye sight, a person will be addicted and will waste their time, a person will be dumb if they play videogames cos they will be addicted and they wont study. Being good in videogames will get you nowhere, videogames will make you fat that all we need to do all day long is to study, study study.
Guess what teachers, I knew smart and successful people who plays videogames everyday, they graduated college with honors and have successful careers.
I know athletic and healthy people who loves videogames, and they were not fat nor lazy.
I know people who have bad eyesight not because of videogames but because of books.
Daigo Umehara,Justin Wong,Sako,Kayane and Combo Fiend were making lots of money because of fighting game tournaments.
Videogames are good in Moderation. for some unknown reasons teachers hates them.

I think they dont understand it cos the technology dont exist on their childhood, specially thye old lady teachers, since less women play videogames, they only see the negatives. They didnt know it can actually improve hand and eye coordination.

I'm not that old, not even middle age yet and have always had a conservative few of gaming.I agree captain, there is a whole new world out there for the younger generation even I wouldn't fully understand. My husband is in his forties and he reckons they are good. You are right it is probably the women who are more conservative!!

Actually they prefer to say that video games are destructive to education. In my own opinion, why do you need to make a choice between gaming and education if you can have and handle them both, And I am sure that this will help you realize and decide which passions are you going to pursue. Apparently video games and education, even though they progress in different manner, will end up at the same goal which is money and success!

education is overrated though, there areso many Billionares who didnt even stepped on college. For sure students needs to study hard for their future but life will be sol depressingly gloomy if they did nothing but study.

Fact: People who never plays video games get bad eyesight because of spending too much time reading books to prepare for their lessons. It's also because of stress.
Fact: Students who usually gets migraines/headaches are due to stress from school works and projects.
Fact: People who spend more time playing video/computer games gets more income than the average from employment.
Fact: People who plays video games can learn different languages just by spending time with the games than books and teachers.
Fact: When people enjoy something, they learn more from it because of their interest. Even if they spend a hundred years in something they don't want to do, they'll produce nothing in the end.
Fact: You can find these things in the net if you search for them; In the news; and in books.

Those facts are really fun indeed, Now I wanna visit my old school and make my former teachers read them. that is going to be super delicious. sometimes we need to be relaxed and not pressured with the problems and facts of life. if we were too serious we will age faster.

I think it depends. I do know someone who is addicted but she is not a teenager but a middle aged person.
I think some people can get addicted but it is not the game alone but a lot of other factors (if it wasn't games it would be something else) such as why you feel the need to be distracted for so long and shut out the world around you.
Like you said, they aren't harmful in moderation - although the content in some games seems to appeal to meatheads and wannabee warriors who should, perhaps, be kept gaming in a little room somewhere away from civilised society - but like all addictions, the addict is the last one to recognise they have a problem.

On the other hand we have those people who take advantage of that addiction, they practiced certain fighting games, mastered a certain character, competed in tournaments and win some cold cash,. a competitive fighting game is the best videogame to be addicted to, but you have to end up good not terrible. I tried practicing for 6 months. I got eaten alive at a tournament.

I think there are positive and negative video games and personally I don't think it's good to fill your mind with violence. I don't mind skill games and I think the latest interactive things like Wii and kinect are really cool things. There are lots of debates about whether they make you more or less brainy, like the car games. Some experts think they are good for driving but others think they are bad. Balance is the key to anything and too much negativity will drive you insane.

Thank you. I guess this is my main point. My husbands sons are 11 and 13. They have been playing R16 for years. I think it's disgusting their parents let them play it. I do think it affects them as their talk is often violent and they think it's all really cool to blow things way instead of thinking strategically. I have said my bit but I am not their parent. Now the hard thing becomes not letting my toddler watch them playing these games as he wants to be just like his brothers. I'm glad you believe this also.

I do play some violent videogames, usually the survival horror ones, But it doesntmakemeevil or murderous something. I think Violent games are for people with high levelof maturity. if parents cant stop making their kid playing violent videogames, A little supervision and guidance is needed. I was raised to differentiate fantasy and reality. what we doin games should not be made in real life.

That opinion is always from people who hasn't play a single video game in their life. Yeah it can give you a bad eye sight while playing, but that is if you play so close to the TV. Watching TV Shows and movies so close to the TV will also give you a bad eye sight, so it isn't video games only.
A person won't be dumb if playing video games. Well maybe, but that is if they are really really addicted and don't take a break from playing to study and do their homework. But you don't get dumb when playing video games. You can learn how to read if you play those old RPG games where you have to read what the character is saying, there are games where you can learn about history, math, etc. I play a lot of video games, but I'm not dumb either. I'm in college and getting good grades.
A person getting fat cause they play video games is not true. I'm still skinny and I play a lot of video games. Only people who stays seated while playing and never do exercise and eating junk food will make them fat. Hence why Nintendo and Microsoft made the Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect so kids and family can get off the couch and move around while playing.
Teachers have their opinions, but they are wrong.

There are also games that challenges are brain cells which is good, I learned something about the life of lawyers in the Ace Attorney games. The old Resident evil games helped learn to use my logic because of its puzzles, Its mroe than a zombie shooter.
Fighting games make us think about strategy, being strategic helps ups survive the hardest situation in life. But yeah we cant stop those teachers hating them, maybe the older teachers have a more open mind.
and before Wii and kinect, we have the dance dance revolution pad. That one never gets old. i remember the story of a woman who lost weight because of that videogame.

I think teachers only hate videogames if the student neglects his/her studies. They just say those bad consequences to scare students and stop them from getting addicted. They are just against the habit of playing videogames.
