how to maintain a bike?

hey friends i own a Bajaj Avenger 22Odtsi bike and its nearly 9 months old and i have drove oly around 5000kms and i am pretty happy with its performance mileage and everything, Now tat all the three free services offered by the company is over i want to know how to maintain my bike properly so tat i don spend too much on it on service all the time. actually its about three months that my last service was over and my bike started to make a different sound so i discussed with friends and they said its time to change my engine oil and they also advised me to use shell petrol and shell full synthetic engine oil for best performance of my bike. What else should i check regularly? how do i maintain my bike so tat it performs best always. i am planning to change my tires into alloy wheels and also to install an air filter in my bike can i go ahead with these changes or not? will it detain my bikes performance? Ad what about nitrous gas instead of normal air in tires how does it help me? Thanks in advance friends
