My daughter and I had been looking of a little nightstand light that would match in her room. After much looking we settled on a basic white lamp from Walmart that was plain and boring (12.97) and then we went to the craft section and found some little white bows and purple sticky gems (less than $5.00 dollars) We took the lamp and craft items home and my little girl went to work on redecorating her lamp to match into her lilac room.for a 5 year old (who's almost like 6) she did a good job and is proud of her work! Its a fun project that us crafty persons can do with a child. A bit of glue and imagination goes a long way. a Project under 20 dollars that becomes a treasure and a keep sake. My daughter still tells her friends she decorated her lamp and it : matches her room! Happy Crafting

That's cool and she has s right to be proud of that lamp! It's not every 5 year old who would even want to do something like that, or have the creativity to do it. It's great that you're encouraging her, too!

I, too, think that kids would be happy to spend time with their parents doing things that are worthwhile to them. So many parents seem to think their kids need structured activities before they need to have time with Mom or Dad or both. I understand that things have changed since I was a young mother and play dates are sometimes necessary, but we would have laughed at that idea. Our kids played together whenever we visited each other and they played with the neighbor kids without any interference. Times were different then, as I said. To see a parent who gives her child time and who also gives the child the freedom to express herself and be involved in the life around her is wonderful.

The average parents spends only about eleven minutes per day with their child?! I find that very difficult to believe, although I suppose that the parents that do not spend time with their child(ren) could really bring that statistic down. Still, I would expect the average to be no less than an hour a day. I know that when I was working full-time and had a three hour commute to work I still managed to spend at least that amount of time with my child each day - and I felt badly because I did not think that was enough.

It's fun to encourage her to try new things! When she choose the lilac paint she painted the bottom half of her room as far as she could reach, she also painted the second coat of paint. I think most kids given the chance will happily spend time with thier parents doing something of quality, whether its painting, decorating a lamp or playing a family board game. Sadly the average parent according to a statistics says that averager parent will spend 11 minutes a day with thier child... sad isn't it. She loves her lamp and now that she can is a beginner reader she can browse her books in bed at night by herself!!!

The lamp sounds gorgeous, and I bet that it looks beautiful in her room! We do projects and crafts a lot, especially for birthdays or Christmas. Of course, it does not have to be a special occasion to do them, but the special occasions just give us more reasons to get creative and have fun. My little one just made a picture frame and picture for her uncle for Christmas. She used glitter and lots of bright colors on the picture (one of the fuzzy pictures that you have to color), and then she helped to make the picture frame and decorate it. She was SO proud of herself, and he loved it and was very impressed with all the detail and how well it turned out, because my little one is only four years old.

I actually added a picture but for some reason it didn't load- odd! She did think of it but decided that the gem sequins was enough. She didn't want to over do it. She's pretty good with decor ideas considering she is now a whole whopping just turned 6 and lost 2 teeth... different story. LOL She did a different project which I will post with perhaps a picture that actually will load... or so I hope LOL

maybe this little project is the way forward for her, she may become a major crafter when she gets older, it's amazing what you can do with some bits and bobs, i love crafts, i have my own little store in a church where i sell my hand made jewellery, i have been selling this for over 2 years and it sells well, i also sell on line and most of my jewellery goes over to USA or Canada, and even as far as Australia, i love making things, and i am so proud of your daughter making her own little design with the lamp, even a little piece of pirple swan feather around the bottom would really set it off, but it seems she is happy with what she made, well done her, i recently bought my grandson a little craft box with craft items inside, he cannot wait to get here so he can start making things, maybe i should ask him to make a little lamp for his room, i do have a spare in my garage
