Opinions on a digital photo frame

One of the things we got as a family this Christmas was a digital photo frame. I've finally hooked it up last night (after loading all the pictures I wanted), and was staring at it for a while when I got an 'uneasy' feeling.
I can't help but think that it is a technology, or an electronic item that crossed its limits. First off, I think the reason why we frame pictures is that we want to freeze certain moments. And I think that by having multiple pictures on the frame says the owner can't decide which moment to freeze.
Secondly, by having a slide show of pictures, it opens itself up for the competition against TV's, computer monitors, iPad's, etc., which we all know it can't win.
So, do you have a digital photo frame? Are you satisfied with it? Do you differ in your opinion about this electronic gadget? Where do you put it? Beside the TV or the computer monitor?
Can you help me appreciate mine?

We don't have one for ourselves, but I bought one for my parents a couple years ago for Christmas. They are not into technology for the most part . . . so it seemed like the perfect thing to get for them (not to mention I have run out of ideas of what to get for them - ha ha). They do have a digital camera, but have no computer in which to dump out the memory card contents (they don't even type, so they have no use for a computer). My father had the bright idea that he was just going to delete every thing after he gets the prints that he wanted. Well, so we bought them a printer in which they could print from home (trying to get them to go to an outside source for prints was too confusing for them). So this digital photo frame was the next thing I got them . . . so they have something to upload their pictures to. For them, it was sort of convenient. They are not the types who plaster framed photos all over their walls/house, so this contraption could show a slide show in one spot - and they wouldn't have to choose just one photo. They could the grandchildren or my dad especially could look at the photos of his bonsai collection instead of printing them all out and sticking them in an album. They keep it in their livingroom on top of the piano (which no one uses these days) - that's where guests go, if there are ever any guests. See, so they don't see other technological gadgets like we do - so they can appreciate that digital frame.

I guess this could be a perfect item for a minimalist, in terms on frames at least. You could have just have one and have all the pictures in there giving a slide show.
Maybe I could also get this for my parents next Christmas!
Who knows?! Maybe even the same one if I don't throw the box. Then it would already have the pictures of their grandchildren in there which would be perfect!

Nope I don't have any... 'though I have thought about buying one before. We have a lot of photos that isn't printed out so I like the idea of it. But then I also thought that after a while we'll get used to it and it'll be there and keep on showing photos while we don't even look at it anymore. If someone will give me I would appreciate it much, but I no longer plan on buying one.

I would like to have one. I haven't got one yet. There was an IT guy at work making them out of people's old laptops and they were really neat. I would like to know how to make one. I think they make great presents.
If I got one, I would want a really big one. I think that would be neat but it might be a distraction too.
I think you are right about the frozen moments. I certainly have trouble deciding which moments the digital frame is worthy of. I would have the slide show too.

I have seen the frames online, but to tell you the truth I think they are just way out of line for the cost. I guess if it was a gift it would be ok but, I would never buy one for myself or someone else. I like my pictures in regular frames that I can put on the walls or where ever.
I hope you can find some enjoyment with your new frame. I guess I am just not one that is into electronics.

I've actually started turning it off at night (it has a remote which you can use to move slides backwards and forwards, turn off and on, etc.).
I found out the other night that if I wake up in the middle of the night, with everything turned off except the digital photo frame sliding the pictures, I end up staring at it. Which doesn't help in getting me back to sleep quickly.

Sounds like you are enjoying enjoying your digital frame. It sounds like it could be a nice night light.
I can see how one could just sit and stare at something if it was on all the time.
Enjoy

I don't have a digital picture frame in my home. The main reason that I don't have one is because of the fact that I like to get the more decorative types of frames and the digital frames don't have the dimension or visual appeal to me that typical picture frames do have.
Additionally, I do want to keep certain moments of our lives frozen and that is the reason that I use several individual picture frames in my home as opposed to using one digital picture frame.

That's the big difference, as far as frozen moments are concerned. You can freeze one and designate a space for it at home. You would always know where it is, when you want to go back to it. As opposed to a digital one which might have a different moment at a certain time.
Thanks.

Actually I have two in my house, one in my bedroom the other is in my office. I personally love it, the only thing that I find annoying is update and/or uploading the pictures. I just wish there was an easier way of uploading new photos, besides having to connecting it to the computer all the times. But then again, it beats having to cut out a picture making it the perfect size so it can fit in the frame and once you get tired of seeing the same picture go through the entire process again. Once in a while you don't even change the picture again, you just leave the same one there for years. So yes I do love my digital photo frames.

yes I bought myself one after seeing one at a friends place and I used to have it on quite a bit but lately I have been putting a nice big photo album together with real photos in it seeing as getting photos printed these days are so cheap, I take a lot of photos so I am just picking out my favourite photos and making little collage photos out of the ones that are not favourites, I just like looking at the real photos better and writing all the info about the photo to help bring back memories...

Today the digital photo frame is not expensive. However, I am not interested in buying it since I have laptops at home. I like taking photos by my digital camera and I have lots of the photos. But I prefer to make a photo album which I can watch from TV. It is the best way for me to enjoy seeing my photos. As to the digital photo frame, I can't always let it on since it will spend some electricity and I don't think it will be good for its battery.
I love China

Why put it next to a TV or computer screen since they both views things. The best place to put it is somewhere public like the living room or the kitchen where others can enjoy aswell. I really like this new digital frames since you can put many pictures in it and they have a slideshow aswell instead of still images. Eventually you will get bored looking at the still images in tranditional frames. That is why I like digital. I hope one day in the future we can create a digital image that moves in the frame like in Harrpy Potter. Now that would be nice.

It can be distracting beside a TV or a computer monitor, yes.
I agree that it'll be great in the living room while entertaining guests. They can view the slides while you go about preparing snacks or stuff. They won't get bored viewing the many pictures.
Thanks and welcome to myLot!
