Wrong move! I just give back the 100 peso fake bill to the vendor to change it!

Yesterday, I went to the market to buy some vegetables for my "sinigang" for dinner. I gave a 500 peso bill for my purchase, the vendor give back my change... i counted then I go. It's a sidewalk vendor just an info.
Before heading home, I decided to buy burger from McDonalds for my kids waiting at home. Upon giving my payment to the cashier, I noticed this 100 peso bill that was different from the rest. It's a FAKE! Glad that I noticed it first and not used in paying at store. *sigh!
I went back to where I bought the vegetables. I hand it back to the vendor and I said I want him to change it... no telling it's a fake. The vendor just change it! No questions asked!
I just thought I did a wrong move after that! Surely, they will use it again to fool people who'll buy at them *sigh! *pity me, I do nothing!

Yes, you could have reported it to the police so the vendor could be accosted. By accepting the fake 100 with no question at all, means he is accepting that it's a fake.
It's a good thing that you know how to look at a genuine money. Serves that vendor right! But he deserves a heavier penalty.

*sigh! I just thought that too but I also think about that vendor's sake.. his family!
I just don't know why most of us have this value of "regards to others", though sometimes, in return we didn't get the same regards *sigh! I'm nuts!
I just hope for the better. Those vendors together with their lead should realize that they should stop their foolishness until they still have time to change!

If i am given my way, i would not be bothered by what will happen to the vendor. He knows that what he is doing is illegal so i suppose he knows the consequence of what he is doing , when caught.

I don't think there's anything else that you could have done with that fake peso bill. Because even if you did report that, I am not sure that our police can make that vendor accountable for it because that vendor will just claim that he did not know it was a fake bill. Also that vendor will say that they just got it as payment so they are victims of fraud too.
I remember that banks do not accept fake bills too. A few years ago when I was still a manager for a fast food restaurant, there were some instances where our cashiers would get fake bills. The bank teller would just give the fake bill back to us when we would make a deposit and then we would have to keep the fake bill. So it seems that when you get a fake bill, consider it as trash because you can't get it reimbursed from the bank or the government even if you report it.

Uh uh! So our government/Central bank don't have the consumers act favorable bill!
So we'll just to report that fraud in case we have the guts to do it for the officials to investigate with no assurance that we can get our money back! Not good! I think it's a waste of time, those vendors are not the big fish they should focussed to be caught, right anne?!

We should be very careful with the money that we receive because you see, there are vendors who are tricky like that vendor in your story. I do not want to encounter such a vendor. It's a good thing that it's just a hundred-peso bill. I hope he or she gets busted.

Oh yeah you could have informed him that it was fake. I've seen the news last night about this guy (or a group) that was using fake 100 peso bill to small stores. Maybe we really need to be careful and check whether the money given to us is fake or not.

here in the US if you give out a phony bill and know its a phony bill they will call the police and hold you until they can find out if you got it innocently or you are the one making and passing phony money , I know as I had picked up a twenty dollar bill lying on the sidewalk in the campus where at that time years and years back i was a coed there. I had an fbi agent and police officer asking me a ton of questions and I proved i was innocent so the FBI agent took nme to the place on the campus where I had found the bill. it turned out that the frat house there was a cover for two young men making counterfeit money. wow.[

It is obvious the vendor also got that fake 100 peso bill from the buyers because you were able to return to the vendor that fake money without him even noticing it is fake.
I also got a fake change before. It was so many years back. It was a 50 peso fake bill I got from a meat vendor. I go to know it was fake when the watch repairman told me it was fake as I was paying him for his service. Well I just charged it to bad experience. I cut the money into pieces because I believe any fake money belongs to the garbage. Anyway in your case, I find it quite funny how you were able to get back your 100 in that way. 100 is 100 and with the hard life we are having it is really not good to have your 100 wasted.

In addition, I think there are better options you could have done in such situation. As for me I will just destroy that money to keep it out of circulation. I will just sacrifice my 100 instead of letting that fake money victimize another. What if a very poor one got that 100? That would hurt him a lot. Another option is to just tel the vendor that you got a fake 100 peso change from him. If he would change it then fine but chances are he would find ways of giving it to another unsuspecting buyer. However if he did not admit that he was the one who gave you that fake bill then just charge it to experience. Just as you did before just mark it FAKE.

Way back, I got also a fake P100 bill, I just let it play with my kids. I write a word "FAKE" on it... and of course, I washed it with soap before I let my kids play it *LOL...
I think the vendor knew it was fake and really with the motives to let it spread.
I thought that I should destroy, ripped that fake money not to be spread out more but it's too late! I just got my good mind after what I did and I'm home then. Tsk! Tsk! Very too late for the proper action I should do! *pity me...

We'll you've done it already. Perhaps next time, (hopefully no more next time on fake bills) better tell the vendor that it was fake so that he/she would not give it to anybody. My in-laws are also vendors in the market and based on my observation, they don't issue change to their customers with fake bills. Once they notice it was fake, they separate it from the rest. Some vendors are still honest. Usually they are just meticulous in accepting payment if its 500 or 1000 peso bills. 100, 50 or 20 peso bills are not carefully checked especially when many customers are buying at the same time. And to avoid the same thing happen again, better check the change before leaving the store or the vendor so you could easily claim for the real money.
Happy Mylotting!

Yes, it was done and it was yesterday! Yes, no more next time please *LOL!
Vendors and all people are not really with the same values. I didn't say all vendors are like that. I have known people and vendors with proper manners too. Glad that your in-laws are good mannered!
Cheers!

Yes, that is a wrong move. I think cashiers could confiscate fake bills without any replacement and that is for the purpose not to bring it back to circulation. Maybe the vendor does know that it was fake because he immediately replaced it without any question. The initial reaction should be to ask reasons and if you told him that it was fake, then he will deny coming from him since you don't have proof that it really comes from him.

Yes, a wrong move of mine! I should not give it back to the vendor to be sure it'll not be circulated again the fact that I've no plan of reporting the issue to an officer *sigh!
Letting it change was the first I had in mind. I'm not been objective for my actions *pity me!

well you could always report the vendor so the cops will investigate and if caught with the fake bill then hurray for us consumers, that fictitious, fake money giving away person. Should pay for that particular crime. I hop that you will consider telling on the cops. Anyway lhenni good move you got your money back.

I just wondering what if some had it and pay it on other stores and get reported.
I know it's a crime to use it whether it's really from you or you just get it somewhere. Planned or not! The sad thing is, ignorance is not an excused *sigh!
I just hoped someone innocent will not suffer because of other's abusing manner!
Have a nice day too yaso!
