The Department of Tourism launched a new tourist campaign. The campaign now has the logo "It's more fun in the Philippines.' However, news stories reveal that the slogan is lifted from another national tourist campaign (this time, Switzerland). The secretary, somehow defended the new tourist slogan. What's your take on this new development? Do you think tourists or foreigners will be enticed by this new slogan?

We all hope and we also hope that we don't fail in many sense, I suppose. I think we have enough episodes of this.

Let us give this campaign a chance no matter if there was the same logo used in Switzerland in 1951 that resembles this idea. Come to think of it, why do people always criticize the logos and slogans of the Dept. of Tourism? Don't we just have anything better to do than search the web for similarities? These are generic terms which we cannot avoid using. I just hope this proves to be successful because the country needs tourists and visitors. The countries in Southeast Asia are prospering due to the influx of tourists in their lands so it is about time that we also do something about promoting the Philippines. Enough of the criticism, and let us all help in spreading the news online that the country is a good place to visit.

The main issue of this is originality. The reason why originality matter is that with originality our country is can be distinguishable and unique from others. And a unique marketing strategy will be more tailor-made and can bring more success. Being unique in a competitive marketing world (even in tourism) is a big must because we are talking of people and impressions. There’s nothing wrong if we do copy other tourism logos and marketing but we’re underselling ourselves - meaning we’re making the first number one mistake, in a marketing perspective. And it defeats the purposes of marketing ourselves in the first place.
There is a good reason for people like me who are questioning the concept. We’re concerned people and we like to see some improvements in our perspective. We acknowledge that the campaign is good but it can be better. The thing is, we shouldn’t settle for second best if we can have the first place. We need the tourists and their money, just like our other competitors in the tourism market.

maybe yes maybe not. it would really depend on the department of tourism how effective their campaign would be. although its a little bit catchy, somehow its still lacking in some aspects, which i cant pin point as of this moment. anyway i do hope that whatever their plan is, it would be effective. a little more foreigners wouldnt hurt the country - hopefully

I agree that everything is dependent on that particualr department and they also need our support. However, I think we as a people should have a more participatory becuase everyone has a stake into this. We can offer constructive criticism and we can also help spread the word. But the department, in my opinion, should give us their very best output so we can proudly follow their lead.

Personally, I don't think it's a catchy slogan. I actually feel it's trite and pedantic. It's just plain boring for me. If we're sticking with this, I think we should really complement this slogan with very, very good videos and photos just to offset the lackluster slogan or we might lose tourists to our neighboring countries who I feel had really thought of their tourism campaign.

Somehow, I feel the same thing as you do. there's something lacking but my main issue is the originality and the copy marketing. However, I cannot stop the department if they really want to get the ball rolling in this one and if they do, I support your idea to complement the concept.

I dont think its a big deal that the new slogan resembled that of the Switzerland. Many tourism slogans all over the world resemble each other because there are just so few positive words that you can use without sounding obscure.
The said tourism slogan in Switzerland was used in the 50s, so in terms of legal issues there is none since the copyright obligations expired already.
People should just quit this slogan issue and focuses more on the question of how to improve infrastructures and access to many tourism spots around our country.

I have read reports about the new slogan of our Department of Tourism. I don't want to be rude but they should make a slogan which would really get the attention of the foreigners. Thus, this slogan doesn't have any effect to the foreigners. They should think more deeply and use the perfect choice of words.
