better to break a heart than to break a home?

i laughed when i heard this at first because me and my friend just kidding when we talk about her crush who is already a married man. and one of our co-worker said this " it is better to break a heart than to break a home".we paused for a while and took it seriously which is true, she is right because it is better to hurt the heart of one person than to hurt a family which bounded by God. it is not wrong to appreciate a person but not to fall in love with a committed one. we're not planning to broke anyone because me and my friend just talking about appreciation here.
how about you?did you ever break a heart?or a home?
what is your idea about this phrase? ^_^

If we would guard our hearts, then we would not wind up in painful situations. Unfortunately, sometimes our hearts lead us down a bad path. One of my best friends is very much in love with a married man. She has suffered a broken heart and continues to suffer as he chooses to remain with his wife. It is better for her to endure her broken heart, than to ruin the home. However, its more sad that it had to happen at all, so I understand what you are saying.
