Sugar free recipes

January 6, 2012 9:52pm CST
Im on a sugar free diet, and need some good recipes to try. I also had to eliminate carbs, because Im diabetic and my sugar right now is out of control and this was the only way to handle it. But I miss sweets, like blueberry muffins, gummy candy and things like that. Anyone has any recipes?

My mom is a diabetic and when she found out she went on the Atkins diet until she lost some weight, once she lost weight she could eat carbs again as long she balanced them out with protein. There are web sites on line that have lots of Atkins recipes. One favorite of my mom's was deviled eggs where you hard boil the eggs then cut them in half and pull out the yolks then mix the yolks with some mayonaise, mustard, and pickle relish.

A word of caution my friend, from a long standing diabetic, me. Alternates to sugar are just as harmful in the long run. Go easy with them, they are chemicals that your body may react to. The secret of controlling blood glucose levels is in being regular about everything you do. Food, exercise and medication. Missing on time, quantity or quality means trouble. I will leave the medication part to your Doctor, he/she is the best judge. As for the food I advise you have good quality food and eat just till your hunger is satisfied. If you are a big one for the quantity, go for the salads, with low fat dressing. Walk at least a couple of miles a day, even if the job you have is very physical in nature. Now that the lecture is done with, I have a confession. I too have cravings for things I am not supposed to consume. I have developed a method to indulge myself without getting out of the line. If I eat some high carb stuff, I halve my next meal, and double my exercise for that day. This works if the indulgence is not regular.
