Panic Time!!

Last year, well, in 2010, a friend of the roomie's mom called her and said "I don't know what's going to happen to "D" when I die." The roomie - after asking me - said she could live here. So we have gradually been working on getting the house ready. The whole shed project was part of this getting the house ready. We got a phone call from a friend who said her daughter, "A", had drowned her iPod and could we help her get a new one. The roomie said that if she would come over and help with the house, we would actually buy it for her. She is out of art school until the end of January. She came and worked 7 hours on Monday, HARD work, emptying out the green shed. Some of you might remember that we had previously emptied it at the end of spring but that's where a good bit of the stuff that was in the brown, now my craft, shed went. She had things to do on Tuesday and couldn't come. But Tuesday was also the day that "D's" mom died. We are NOT ready. PANIC TIME!!!! We need MORE than one young person to do this work. The roomie called her friend "B" who has some sons about "A"'s age. One is unemployed, the other is out of college on break. Wednesday "A" and the eldest son emptied the little shed in front of the house that previously held a handicapped riding cart and other stuff, but mostly just had junk in it. They also pulled every thing out of the blue shed. They also sorted about 8 boxes of my craft books in the brown shed and put them on shelves. Monday and a bit on Tuesday I was going through the boxes "A" had pulled out and sorting them by type/keep/donate. Because I had done a good bit of my books last spring I really only donated about 2 boxes of books (if you remember we took several boxes last spring.) I continued sorting books on Wednesday, with the roomie coming out during lunch and after she got off work. They also emptied all the boxes that the roomie and I had done from my front room (I can actually see my whole TV for the first time since September). Some were books, more sorting! and some were craft stuff - straight into the blue shed. Then Thursday both of the older boys were here with "A" and the roomie has also taken off time and she spent 7 hours pretty much seat in chair sorting boxes of books. The boys and "A" were moving boxes and cleaning out the "cat room" which will be my new bedroom. Today, Friday, we again had our crew. First the boys emptied out my closet of the boxes we had stored in there, and then emptied out all the boxes and bins in the roomie's room. When that was done the other roommate "OR" and "J2", the next older boy, cleaned the walls in the cat room, taking everything down, washing the walls, ceiling, ceiling fan and then the holes filled. "J1", the older boy, was building boxes and bringing to the roomie fresh boxes and taking away and either putting them in the "donate" or "keep" piles. Meanwhile, "A" was cleaning off bookcases in the roomie's room, boxing books to be sorted (keep, donate, trash) and cleaning off the cases so they could be removed. While that might've waited, we needed to do that today because the piece of plywood we bought to be made into part of my built in bed was what was needed to stand on the waterbed - a lot more stable than the waterbed itself! Tomorrow... paint! We need to get that room painted so we can have the new, built in, captain's bed installed. Tuesday we donated 2 boxes of books. Thursday I took 2 loads to Goodwill - over a dozen boxes of books and about 20 board games that we will never play again. Today it was another 9 boxes of books and some other stuff. We need to get the book boxes inside a shed because it is supposed to rain on Monday, but right now all the craft boxes are stored in the blue shed. Most of the roomie's stuff, except the books, are in the green shed. As I sit here "OR" is sanding in the room, I'm getting ready to take my night pills because we are still barely started! We are going to be paying these kids (well, they are all over 20 but we're old enough to be their parents!) Heck, "A"'s mom said she might come help since we were paying on her day off. So, pray (or whatever it is you do) for us that we can get this done and the house CLEANED before "D" gets moved in.

It is amazing how fast you move when panic comes to the door. I hope it all gets shaped up for D to have a pleasant and safe home, along with the rest of you. Is D not able to live on her own? It sounds like you are off on a new adventure.

Wow! That's quite a bit to get accomplished in a short time! I had trouble following your A, D, etc., but it did make for an interesting read! How long did it take to get everything ready for the move in? Are you still taking care of "D"? I hope things are going well for you! Have a great week!!!

It took just under 3 weeks to do it, but it got done! We did still have a couple there the day I drove up to get D. As for taking care of her... well, she wanted us to do that - but she's an adult she can do a lot of things for herself and she's having to do them too!

Just reading this tired me out. If I didn't have to be at the policing centre in 30 minutes, I'd go back to bed!

I'm going to get you a super woman tshirt! How in the world did you even have time to type this up?, lol! Just directing everybody on what to do would exhaust me. Everything will work out, you'll see, but I think you might need a vacation after it's all done..geesh. Oh how I wish I could be there to help out. Hang in there hon and wishing you the best! It WILL work itself out and then you can finally rest.

It sounds like you have gotten a lot done already. You will get it all finished so don't panic, but if you don't, it's really no big deal. As long as you have a space for her that is liveable, you can finish the little things after she moves in. It probably would be easier to do before, but there is only so much you can do at one time, and what doesn't get done, doesn't.

I hope and pray everything works out and you get done on time. I recently moved my daughter and grand baby in my house so I know how that goes.
