strain of the holidays

the worst part of it all is that the best part of the holidays is not even half of what you expected.
maybe it's the dancing lights. maybe it's the joyous carols. maybe it's knowing that you are for some pig-out moments. but there's just something about the holidays that makes you look forward to it as if it would be the happiest time in your whole year and that things couldn't get any better that during these days.
unfortunately though, that's not always the case. yes, the holidays are not a side time for most of us... but they're not that happy either. that moment wherein you expect that an epiphany would suddenly come upon you and you will realize that you are the luckiest person on earth just didn't come and after all the fireworks, the partying and the noise - you realize that you are still the same person you were and that you were celebrating a season that did not deliver what it has been expected to.
so you proceed with life with a hint of dread - because your holidays were not the happiest days of your year... BUT THAT IS EXACTLY THE POINT, ISN'T IT?.... the happiest days of your life don't require fireworks with them... in fact, the happiest moment of your year could be any moment from now.. tomorrow perhaps? so, keep your heads up, folks.... and face each day as if it's worth celebrating. :]

The best part of holidays for me is spending it with your loved ones. This is usually the time that we hold our annual family reunion. This is also the time that we receive lots of bonuses in our work. More money to spend with your family and more money to buy stuffs for yourself and your loved ones.

Hello! Spring Festival, we also start my holiday. But, what is this holiday, is each must face the things. I in shenzhen, the annual Spring Festival the city became almost empty city. Because people are back home. So all right, the city becomes quiet down, so where to go to, not as crowded as usual. Ha ha!
Happy New Year! Congratulation!

That is for sure. I know many times people always expect everyone to be Happy and joyous and want to Celebrate when it comes to the Holidays and the Holiday season. Many expect us to be joyous, proud to get time to spend with our family and friends exchanging gifts and just being together.
But it can be a Strain both mentally, emotionally as well as financially. Not everyone enjoys this time, and many are even forgotten. I know for me many times it is about others even when I am feeling alone. I try to remember those less fortunate and it helps relieve a little more stress of what I might be feeling and going thru for sure.

Hi there Fashionablyloud,
Welcome to Mylot! I think the problem is that people set expectations to begin with. They stress over making everything perfect and financial issues etc. If they would just kick back and enjoy the family gatherings and the beauty of the season for what is is then I think they would enjoy it a whole lot more. It's hard not to buy into the commercialism of the holiday which does nothing but add stress to most of us. I love buying gifts for friends and family but each year we've gotten better and better about keeping that part of it within our budgets and putting more focus on the other aspects of the holiday. I had a great holiday and hope you did too!

I agree with you. Holidays can be disapppointing and post Christmas can be a tricky time as relatives have gathered who perhaps we don't see that often and don't get on with! But you're quite right - the happiest days of our life can occur unexpectedly and we should embrace them when they do. I am a great believer in the motto, "attitude is everything" and this is something over which we have complete influence. So go ahead, enjoy life.
