Hi everyone!
As you may recall, I was in the hospital over the holidays with a bowel obstruction. Although the doctor mentioned it while I was in the hospital, he never did go into detail. "It" being the possibility of going back into chemo. The doctor's office called me Thursday to set up an appointment and I was told that it was specifically to discuss starting chemo. Now I am feeling all out of sorts because my doctor (currently on maternity leave) had said that she didn't want to put me on chemo because I was feeling fine and she couldn't see making me miserable. Her replacement seems to think that because I had been in the hospital last month that it is time to restart or something. I will know more on Tuesday I guess. Now that I have my hair back I don't look forward to losing it again, but I guess I will take this one day at a time. I have been doing fairly well since I got home, but hearing this doctor's decision is enough to turn around any good that I have experienced. Oh well...Happy New Year!!!

I am SO sorry, Debbie! I had to check your other posts as I had missed them. I have also been in an out of doctors and hospitals. I wholly understand the title of yout post. Once you start feeling better, something else comes along. I thought I would be having a week of vacations and here I am, at home, without any energy at all. Do keep us posted and let us hope everything is for the best

I was all ready to plan some kind of trip and now I don't think I will be able to do that. Maybe if I'm lucky this doctor won't be as antsy about getting me started on chemo as what he was sounding when I was still in the hospital. My brother will be going with me on Tuesday because he wants to be able to ask questions that I might not be able to relate to him. Then he will be going to either Chicago or Arkansas (don't know what city) to get passports for his wife and kids so they can take a trip to Taiwan using US passports instead of Taiwan passports. He will be leaving for Thailand next Sunday (the 15th) so I will be on my own after that. I'm not too worried about that part because I know if nothing else, I can count on my Red Cross family for support even though they aren't very near.

Wow, it sounds as if he travels a lot. You know the doctors recommend that you bring someone with you to listen to details with you so you are able to absorb everything that is said.

Thanks for the response. I will be holding on as long as I have life in me. I am a fighter and I don't plan to give up. I may eventually decide to stop treatments when it is obvious that it is doing no good, but I hope that before it gets to that point that I am able to find some alternative outside of western medicine.

If you are only in the Philippines, that enzyme from Father Carmona can really help you. I know he is sending this enzyme to some of his patients in other country. Hope you can find another alternative medicine the soonest time possible.

Personally I do hope things are getting better for you, and Sorry to hear that they are thinking this is the option again. Do they really think there is still Cancer somewhere, or is this preventitive prevention? Hope you have been able to get some other opinions and then do what is Best. My thoughts and Prayers will be with you this yr. my friend, and just remember no matter what happens from here, God is still in control.

I understand that feeling of a doctor's statement turning everything around. My husband finished his chemotherapy for lymphoma on the 27th of October and at that point we really thought that we were done with cancer at least for a little while. Well, after having his follow-up PET scan in November, the doctor decided that radiation therapy was the next step in his treatment. This is the third week of it and next week is his last week. However, I hate that it has made him feel so bad after he had just gotten back to being himself.

I hope your husband is doing better now. I hate to think of all the bad things people have to go through because of the big "C" in whatever form. I wish it would cease to exist for everyone and that we could all be healthy again! Thanks for the response.

Have not you undergone a biopsy before starting a chemotherapy. What does the biopsy report show? If it is a malignancy, you must first of all need a surgery to remove the mass and then you may need a few courses of chemotherapy or radiotherapy as the diagnosis of the disease demands.

They did not do any kind of biopsy. I had been in chemo last year following surgery for a fistula repair and they thought that it was licked last summer when my CA-125 went into the normal range, but as soon as they stopped the chemo the numbers started going up again. There were many small masses throughout the abdomen but last year, at least, they were the same cell type that I had back in 2003.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience which is likely to be reoccurring. My father-in-law may he rest in peace had to go through that, and seeing him broke my heart. Has the replacement doctor contacted your regular doctor to discuss his decision, what does she have to say about it. What ever the outcome I will keep you in my prayers and I know you will over come this, just like you have overcomed all the others. Happy New Year to you as well and I am sure it will be a great one for you.

I don't know if he talked to her or not. The nurse clinician that works with both of the doctors was in the room while he was there and she is the one that gave me the blood test results the next day. I think I trust her more than the doctor since she knows all that is going on from the beginning of my time with this office. I will see what happens on the 24th when they start me on the Gemzar. I heard from other women on this combination that it isn't too bad for them so maybe it won't be too bad for me.

I am sorry that this is what this doctor seems determined about. I guess you will find out if there is something new to be concerned about, or if he just has a different philosophy than your doctor had. I hope you get it all sorted out. I am glad someone is there to go with you.

I just wish it was already next month so I could get my own doctor's opinion. I don't know what I should make of all this. I don't like the fact that there was the abnormal reading on the pap and that the PET scan showed problems, but the latter was expected since they knew the cancer wasn't gone. I guess I will have to wait and see...

I guess you've had your meeting already, but don't forget you are responsible for your health care. Your doctor is just an expert who can make recommendations. If you disagree, speak up and make sure you're totally comfortable with his reasons...

When I heard all the information about why he wanted to start treatment, it made a little more sense. When I heard how much the CA-125 went up in the last month, that was the clincher. I need to stay on top of this or it will crawl all over me. I made it clear that I was tired of the doctor telling me I was vomiting in the hospital when it hurt too much to swallow. Oh well...

i would tell this other doctor i was getting another opinion first and go and get that. because docs seem to have different opinions then each other at times and 0one dont know from the other whats been done or should be done when i was in the hospital, 2 different docs looked on me. one said i was ready to go home the other stepped in next day and said no, i still had infection, etc. none seems to know what the otherr is doing and often dont double check as they should. i had trouble with my bowels in there. 5 days constipated. they gave me laxative in the morn, 2 hrs later another laxative. told them id just had laxative. i started like being on the pot and couldnt stop. lol. 2 hrs after that, im exhausted and just want to lay down but cant stop using the pot. a nurse comes in with an enima!!!and says, huh? doctor ordered this. needless to say i was upset and of course she could see i didnt need that. thats how messed up they get things, you know.

I don't think things ever got that far out of hand for me. The biggest thing that bothered me was when the doctor came through in the evening after the NG tube had been clamped off all day and he noticed I had been spitting all day (it hurt too much to swallow and I told him that). He said they were going to hook me up again and try again the next day and he mentioned chemo to treat the obstruction saying something about me vomiting. The next morning a different doctor was doing the rounds and I mentioned how it hurt too much to swallow and he gave me something for the pain and they started me on clear fluids after clamping me off again. I had no problem so they pulled the tube the next day. By the end of the day I was on regular food and went home the next day. I think if the other doctor would have been there over the weekend, I might still be in the hospital. Oh well...

Hello
I wish you good luck to whatever doc's decision will be. I am sure that the doctor will decide what is best for you.
I hope and believe that things will be more positive for you in the near future and all these troubles and therapies will have a happy end.
I wish you the VERY BEST LUCK
