I am currently learning how to drive, I do enjoy it, but I am so nervous at the same time! I never driven a car before and I find it really hard to steer and when to break when I'm about to turn! I'm learning to drive automatic car and most people say it will be easy, though I don't find it easy at the moment. I have a very patience instructor and I am very thankful for that, but it will help me a lot if I would not needed a lot of lessons becuase its not cheap at all. I just want to hear/know what the others experience and hopefully I will get some ideas that might help me in the future! Thanks a lot.

I went to the driving course to learn driving. It took me more than 10 days till I got the hang of it. When learning to drive, there are three feelings you've got to master: 1) Road feeling : The more you drive, the quicker your feeling toward road feeling. 2) Steer feeling : You can control the car well. You will get the comfortable feeling about your car. 3) The feeling of eye contacts via mirrors. You can look at the back from th mirrors on the right and left side.

So these are the feelings that I need to master, LOL! Well I got the feeling that I am gaining some confident to be in the road now! I do agree that we do need to learn to control the car first and the rest will follow, though we also need to know the road rules! Thanks Yanzalong and hope you doing well with your driving!

You are normal, anyone who is not nervous at first is stupid. This is a big machine and can easily kill. It's best to take it slowly and not rush, it may be expensive to learn but better to do this with no shortcuts, you will be a much better driver. Blessings

I will definetely take this slowly until I am confident enough to be in the road! Thanks Savypat, .

I passed my practical driving test in February 2010. I learned how to drive in an automatic car and at one particular time I did try out driving a manual car. I went back to learning in an automatic car because it was perfect for me. I would say that practice makes a good driver. Once I had learned how to drive fairly well I bought my own car to get extra practice. I had lessons with my driving instructor as well too. I did my practical driving test in his car. My car has A for automatic and I drive in that gear. I put it in N when I park and apply my hand brake. If I am reversing I put it into R. I like to remember the mirror, signal and then move when changing direction. I found reversing the most difficult thing to learn like backing around a corner. My driving instructor helped me know how to do that. For the practical driving test I tried to imagine the lady was my friend. Well, it worked. Good luck. Yes, driving lessons are pricey.

I find reversing is difficult as well, specially when I forgot to check the blind spot. I will take my time before sitting for driving test, I just want to have more experience and when I feel I am ready, I will then sit my practical driving test! Thanks Maximax!

When I was learning to drive I went to a driving school. It took me 10 days to be able to drive. But that was not enough, so I took another 10 days just to get the hang of it. The advantage of learning to drive from a driving course is that you learn not only how to drive but learn traffic regulations as well. Do not risk learning to drive by yourself. Many who did this had several accidents.

Here, you need to know the road rules before they issue you a learners permit, so you kinda have study the road rules first before you start learning how to drive! I think for me, it's more like learning how to control the car and the rest will follow (except the road rules) I mean, reversing, turning into the kerb and so on! Thanks Yanzalong and no I wont drive by myself yet, not allowed to anyway!

hello, That is a very challenging moment I ever had. When I was still learning how to drive I also feel nervous and excited at the same time because everything on my mind is nothing I dont have any idea how does it work but when it got started I feel wow! how nice to drive. I drive a manual car. So, it is really hard because I have a clutch, brake and gasoline. ha ha I dont have car yet but I learned that last year. And I hope I can still drive.

Well done to you, you have a guts to learn manual for starters, . I would like to learn to drive manual as well but because automatic would be easier I did go for it and also because we have an automatic car. I too don't have a car yet, but I can drive Mum in-law car and my Husband car and hopefully one day when I save enough money and with the help of the family, I will be able to get a second hand one! Thanks Tina.

it won't be long before everything you do is without thinking, all automatically, I never thought I would be able to drive when I was young but I have been driving for years now, driving a car sets you free in a way...

I guess a lot of us also experienced some difficulty when we first tried driving a car. I was a 13-year-old kid when I sneaked my dad's car out of the garage but didn't go too far since I backed the car to a ditch :) Personally, learning how to drive a car is relatively easy. The hard part is driving in traffic and anticipating cars in front of you, behind you or on the sides of you.

Even I wanted to learn how to drive and hope I will be learning in few months. I really don't know how I would feel. It is good that you are learning how to drive. It might seem difficult at the first time but with time it should certainly get easier. Have some patience and keep learning. You may get nervous some times but soon you will gain courage. Learn safely!

Well, you are driving an automatic car. It should be fairly easy to learn how to drive that because the hardest thing in learning how to drive is when you are actually on a hanging area. You have to make the right mix of clutch and acceleration to be able to stay at that hanging area. But with an automatic car, that won't be a problem at all. Anyway, just focus on trying to learn how to drive. I also suggest that you try to learn the etiquette on the road already. Like the rules and regulations, the meaning of the lines and when to light in and light out. Practice and practice and practice. It will surely make you comfortable in the road whenever you practice often.

Hi AgentGulaman! I have to pass the theory test before I get the learners permit and that covers road rules, car safety, and how to response in-case of emergency, which I have done already, but of course that doesn't mean I know everything. I can say I've covered the basic when it comes to road rules, I just have to learn to control the car which I am hoping that I will be able to do it very soon. And you are right, practice and more practice and that would surely help me build the confidence to be in the road. Thanks AgentGulaman.

I can imagine what you feel. Even now, I still feel nervous (because I am rarely driving a car). There is no other thing you can do. The more you drive faster the nervous gone. Just drive carefully and do not think too much regarding the theory. The main thing is brake it if you feel too fast or too near to something. Although I am not fluent at driving car (but at least I already try several type of car and on difficult track), I am fluent in driving motorcycle. Wishing you can be fluent soon.
