Can you not just save the gif as a jpeg first then transfer it to pdf through Word. I am not an expert with Word although I did my Webpage in in Word which I was told I could not do... but I do get many photos and things with jpg through pdf...

If it is a jpeg pic you just open up a word blank page, insert the pic and then go down to the bottom and save as pdf file, save it to your desttop so you can find it easy, well that is how I do it, maybe there are other ways but it workd for me...

A GIF file is a bitmap image. If it contains text, it is still a bitmap and the text can't be edited. If you were to 'convert' it to a PDF document, all that would happen is that the image would be embedded in a PDF document. The simplest way to put a bitmap into a Word document is to open a blank Word page and use Insert File to place the image on the page.

I take it that the GIF has text. The only way that you can convert it to editable text is to use OCR software. OCR stands for 'Optical Character Recognition'. Such software is often supplied as part of a scanner package (when you buy a scanner) but there are many available both free and to buy. In my experience the free OCR packages are very limited and do not do a very good job. Quite frankly, it is often quicker and more accurate to type the text into a Word document.
