How does the bible see "the self"?

The bible is mainly focussed on the importance of the common good and doing good for everyone. Maybe our current society is too focused on "the self", but we can't deny that the books in the bookstore promise wild things to people: develop yourself, find yourself, change yourself in so many steps, etc. Maybe it's important to mention that I don't really think there is such a thing as a god, but I think the bible is interesting nonetheless. So I am sceptical about the current value of the bible, but it would be silly to say it has no value any longer today, if I don't study the bible or try to find out some of its value. My question to you all is mainly: How do the old bible and the rather modern idea of the self combine? What does the bible actually say about the self and how you have to deal with the self? Is the self maybe merely an idea?

Faith is believing on the things unseen and seeing the evidence that we hoped for. Faith is abstract, but it is present to people who hold a certain belief. Now, if you read literature crafted by intellectual people, might as well read the Bible too that had written by prophets and other spiritually-guided people who have experience killings and bloodbath just to save the word and make it available to us in one single piece. The Bible is a book of truth, a basis of our doctrine, teachings, and instructions. It doesn't only teach you how to live righteously but it also tells you the way to salvation. The Bible let us know that there is Hell and whomsoever doesn't BELIEVE and ACCEPT Jesus Christ as a Savior and Lord shall suffer. But the way to accepting that truth is humility and the willingness of your heart to learn what the book has to say.

The bible just like a map, it tell everything about universe, past and future story. No body can make it. You should read about both combination bible and scientist, you can read on thisistruth.org The bible say about "the self" ? The main of world is "self", don;t use your mind but use your feeling, and you will understand about yourself.
