Is My Computer Suffering of Old Age??

My computer reached the old age of 6 years this autumn, and I´m beginning to wonder if I need a new one soon. It´s a HP laptop and has worked rather well during the years with a few fixes in the store I bought it.
But now I wonder... A sign came up that I was supposed to use the program CHKDSK to fix some error..??
Perhaps I have to visit the computer store to ask what to do..??
The funny thing is that it may affect some sites. One seems to be Expertscolumn - I can go there in the night, but it is a bit late, over 4 AM our time. I don´t understand why the site works that time and not during the day or evening, and not even earlier at night..??
Has anyone had problems to go to Expertscolumn?
I really like that site, so I would use it more if it worked as it is meant..
Is there anybody wiser than me who could find a solution or tell me what to do?

I have to agree with your other responder about the web traffic. There are a couple of sites that I go to that if it is a certain time of day, it seems to take forever to get on there.
As far as your computer, I think that some sites are upgraded and the compatibility of your operating system might be an issue. If you had the room on there, you can always upgrade.
Take care and good luck!

Hi, Jen It seems to be too much web traffic most of the time, yes..
I hope they can fix it at Expertscolumn so we can go to the site at a more decent time..
Yeah, don´t know if it pays to upgrade or start thinking of a newer computer. I think a Mac would be more reliable, but at this time I can´t afford any computer..
There are though a couple of businesses that will start working in the near future, I hope.. At least they seem to be more reliable than most others out there.. Let´s see if I become rich soon..

I think a Mac is going to be my next one too...I can't do anything now either. My b/f's mother bought one and she loves it. They do cost more but the fact that you don't have to worry about virus protection or repair saves a ton of money in the long run so they are actually pretty reasonable.
If you get rich, don't forget the little people.

It may not be your laptop, but some of the programs that it runs. If you have this laptop for 6 years, the operating system would have to be Windows 2000 or an upgrade of it. The hardware of the laptop is compatible with it. The other programs that you might be using may be for a next version. They will work, but with some "bugs". You should take help of the friendly neighborhood geek. I have it from experience that the "experts" of service centers are no good at the old versions.
As for the trouble you are having with Expertscolumn, I think that the web traffic is the guilty one here. The leaner the traffic, faster the access. Please check your local time versus the site's time. The site will be bound to be busy when your local internet is busy and when its own local traffic is high. Hit on a time which both factors are low and you will have easier access.

Hi, webearn99 Thank you for your advice. I have Windows XP, and it is updating now and then, have also installed more memory earlier..
I have a friendly guy in the shop where I bought the computer so I´ll ask him.
Expertscolumn seems to be gone most of the time except about 4.30 - 6 AM or maybe a bit longer our time. I guessed it may have to do with the traffic being low that time. I would rather sleep that time..
