I'm a freshman in college.at the beginning,I'm really excited about my college life, because it's a chance in my life time to make all kinds of friends and there are many funny activities. But as time goes by,I have lost my motivation on my study, which really makes me confused. Now I worried about my future but it seems that I can't find a way out of my dilemma.I am a student whose major is mechanical engineering.Though I'm really interested in my major,I still know little about it.I want to be an mechanical engineer. what should I do in college?

Try to stimulate your interest toward mechanical engineer once again, otherwise, you will lost forever. The same result on me. I want to be a smart programmer, but I lost my interest on it from day to day, and I never pick it up myself. Now, I am totally confused, and I regret it deeply. I should be better than this.

HI king parker: You are totally right. Losing your initial passion on the things you decide to do with yourself is the first step for failure. So we have to always remember our goals and "feel in love" of the things we do with our lives to never lose the passion.

Of course in your first year in college, you usually will have the feeling of lost and second thought of whether you are seeking on the right degree couse, like in this case Mechanical Engineering. What is most important criteria you need to consider is whether you have the aptitude and great interest in solving mechanical and mathematical problem as part of your work/profession later, if you believe so, then you should be at ease to concentrate in pursuing your dream. If you are unsure, then just study for a year to see how thing go on, whether you are a material to become a Mechanical engineer later very much depend on how well you do in your study, it means that you will never graduate if you don't study hard and possess those aptitude i mentioned above, stop worrying, focus on your study, you can still change your major in your second year if you decide to change to an easier degree to graduate if Mechanical Engineering Degree is too difficult for you. You must have some confident in your own ability and inner talent regardless of what other may say about you since you must be intelligent enough before the college will accept you for admission.

Trust me, my friend! Every freshman feel lost in their first year, but once the semester begin, you will know how to spend your college life after you meet and be friend with different student on campus and in classroom, automatically you will come out with all sorts of ideas to spend your time while in college. It is an experience i can assure you never want to forget later.

It's a normal feeling, I guess. It's awesome at first, seeing new people, having new teachers, new environment, new school stuffs but it wears out as time goes by and the student life starts to rub off on you.
Student life is never easy. If you really desire it, you'll strive for it.
If I were to have a say, one should never spend too long in school. Shifting from one course to the next will only delay your graduation. Because the real battle is outside school.
When you are in my place, already trying to figure out your career path you'll miss your college life but at the same time thankful that you've tackled that stage in your life already.

Hi Leo shuaige: First, don't worry. We all have faced this problem when we have faced college for the first time. The only thing you have to do is ask yourself why you took the decision of becoming a mechanical engineering. Focus on your goal and the things that makes you love what you study and you won't lose your way. Then try to get involved with your friends and doing some college activities to feel happier while you are following your dream.

Don't know what to do ???
it is like waiting on a bus stop for train. You just don't know what you are doing instead you are probably wasting your inspiration in activities which usually passes with the time and main thing your passion your goal remains as it was!!
So basically what i want to tell you is that, do what you want but also make a try to bring out some time in which you can do something which make you more interested in your major., though it is very good that you are interested in your major.
As you are a mechanical engineer you might know a DC motor which turns as you apply some dc volts to it. i know it, even you know it better. but if present this to a 6-10 year old kid, that kid got surprised and would definitely try to get that motor from you just to observe. in short, call that dc motor a concept for that kid.
and now i want to tell you that you have to find a concept for you by your own.
Destiny is always waiting, no matter however you make a way to get there. JUST BE PATIENT and do what your mind says.! never listen to anyone.!

You have to find the right balance. Studying all day every day is no way to live. We need social interaction but at the same time making sure you get work done and done well is just as important. For me I just played everything by ear. For example, weekends that I didnt have a test on monday or an assignment due then I would go out and party. But if I didnt go out that weekend I'd usually be able to find a day or two during the week to do something fun and not school related. It's definitely all about finding the right balance that works for you!

First, you have to focus on your goal.. if you have not set your goals yet.. I guess at this early point in time you need to have one.. Remember you can only achieve certain aspects in your life if you have you goals.. if you think that College might be the toughest part of your life, it isn't, actually the toughest part is living in it..
Just focus..Friends may come and go during college but studies, it will help you build your dreams..

Like you I took mechanical engineering when I got to college/university. And like you, I was a bit confused when I got there because it was there that my mind was opened up, and I realized that there were a lot more things that I could do.
I suggest that you just continue on. I'm sure the first two years of engineering is the same for whatever major anyway. And then at the end of two years, if you change your mind, you could go to another major.

I think this is normal, no one that I know loves to study all the time. Actually, during a difficult semester, no one have motivation to get home and study. If you are able to still pass on the tests then you don't have much to worry, just give a time and the motivation will be back.
