Am I the only person who takes pride in their work whenever it is?

I'm a writer and I want to be the best writer I can be, but if I flipped burgers or sold insurance I would also want to be the best burger flipper or insurance salesperson I could be. Am I alone here? Or do other people feel like it's important to do the best at whatever job you happen to have, even if it is not the one you want.

No, Cripfemme, you are not alone. I don't know how many people stick with this philosophy but I'd like to suggest you something that could be the right thing for you.
I'm reading a book by Robin Sharma, maybe you know about him:

I'm reading "The Leader Who Had No Title". You could check it.
Have a nice day.

People cannot be exactly like you. But i am sure many people share your conviction towards their work.
I personally will not want to do what i dont like. Sure, if had no other option i will have to do whatever i am supposed to. But if i do have an option i will not be so dedicated to the job which i am not interested in.

I'm a little different. If I love the job , I will do my best. But if I am being forced to do it, I will not do my best. I will not even apply for a job I feel I will not like. I rather do something I like.

You're not alone but there aren't many of us! People will always say they're like this, of course (especially in interviews) but in reality most people just do as much as they have to "to get by".
Personally, I'm like you. I agonise for ages over blog posts and articles: they always have to have something to say rather than just being fluff or regurgitations of old news. It makes life very difficult.

Many people do not have the work ethic like us old timers do and it frustrates me! I manage a call center and the agents just do not seem to care and have no followup or pride in their work - it's just whatever meets the min requirements.

No, you are not the only one who feels that way. I feel that whenever I have a job to do I must do the best job that I am capable of. Its the way that I was raised and if I don't do my best I feel dissappointed in myself. It doesn't matter to me if I like the job I am doing or not, if I accept the job then I will do my very best. I think all people should do the same.
