As a young dad, I'm currently looking additional income and looking a part-time job. I've read Secrets of a Millionaire Mind book by T. Harv Eker last week and found it interesting! But as of now, I'm still struggling financially.
How about you? As a successful person, how did you manage to go up from rags to riches? Do these self-help books really help or just a waste of time? If reading them helps, what would be the better if not the best books that I would start at this young age?
Hoping to receive valuable inputs and suggestions from all of you! Thank you!

I am an avid reader of self help books and I can tell there are a few books out there that are absolutely worth reading and the information in those books are absolutely worth applying in your life.
Currently my financial situation has never been better so I focus on other personal skills. Right now I am focused about how I think about myself: self esteem and self confidence. These are the two things that primarily stopped me from getting the best out of life. So when that's 'fixed' I am pretty sure it will make a huge impact on my life and then I'll determine what else needs some fixing.
For me another evidence that self help books work is that I have read upon the mindset that's needed to 'get the girls'. ( Not this PUA stuff...) While I am currently not successful at that I do see that they see me differently and that for me already is quite a leap. :)

"Get the Girls"? Is there any book that teaches you that? Lol!
Anyway, focusing on personal skills is a must too. I think that would be the foundation of all. It is where you will start the first step to success.
I'm hoping that you will find that "get the girls" stuff and would you mind informing also after finding that? Lol!
All the Best!

That's why it's called self-help books because you are the only one that can change your life. The book is just there to guide, in fact, they are not exposing the real reason why they became so successful because seriously it's hard to achieve. 99%persistence and 1% intelligence this is the best formula to be on top. Persist, always persist.

Unfortunately lol- I'm still broke and no where near rich. But seriously I'm not trying to be rich I would just like to have a comfortable income and be able to take care of my family. I think a lot of those books are a waste time. There is a book by jack canfield called the success principle (or you can listen to the cd) where you can check it out from your local library. That book i think is a balanced book that helps a person to be able to just work hard in whatever field they are in. Or if they have a certain goal that they want to reach ex:starting your own business. It really is good. You should check it out. I hope you are able to find the work your looking for.
