many of us are least bothered about saving electricity while there is severe shortage of electricity worldwide. if you are told to save 10-15% of energy everyday is that possible for you? how ? or will you make it a habit to unplug electronics that are not in use? you can save a few hundred bucks a year by unplugging electronics that are not in use. even take care of your cell-phone / ipod chargers, DVRs, stereo, TV, laptop charger, printer, speakers, kitchen appliances, fans, lamps, game consoles, washing machine and likewise dozen devices remain plugged in several times a day. think seriously and save energy.

I also think we can save lots of electricity. I think it is good to save electricity. Once in a while we can switch off all the light and other appliances for around 30 minutes and save electricity. I think it is good to switch off the fans and lights when they are not used. I like the idea of pulling the plugs of the appliances and saving electricity and saving energy. I think solar energy might be a good substitution of energy nad saving energy.

I drive my car less like three days a week in an effort to use less power. I don't keep my shower on standby. I try to have one or two electric lights on at a time. I unplug electronic products when I am not using them unless the electric points are hard to access. Right now I am listening to a CD on my music system and my laptop is plugged in.I have my e book reader recharging at this current time. I am drying my light clothes and bedding wash. I hope to get my owl working. It is something which can monitor electrical costs and usage.

I have tried to do that by unplugging any any electronics or switch off soem lights in the house but it seems to me that it does not make any significant difference in terms of electricity bills. I almost paid the same amount, while I know that some of my electronics and lights were switched off.
We have regular blackout or electricity cut off for several hours even for a couple of days. However, this still does not lower the bills. WE pay the same amount of money. Logically speaking, this should reduce the meter and thus lowering the bill because we did not use electricity during the blackout periods.

hi choukseyMK
thanks for starting such a novel discussion.you absolutely right in pointing out he need to save energy. sometimes we are such careless in leaving the fans and lights on even when not needed. I personally learnt my lesson the hard way, when our water supply got drained out, i realized the importance of our essential resources, since that day i have been constantly conserving energy and other resources.
SAVE ENERGY, MAKE OUR PLANET A BETTER PLACE.

we only have very few appliance at home but I know that should not be an excuse to not unplug unused appliances. Sometimes i leave the Tv, stereo and chargers unplugged. Must be more conscious this time. Might help lower our electric bill

Hi,
I have always been conserving a lot since I was a child, up to the extent of hoarding anything even useless things.
Nowadays, I make it a habit of making sure that all switches are turned off and all wires are unplugged before going out. Unplugged appliances, even turned off, use 25 percent power even in off mode.
Better still, I go for the circuit breaker, if there is one installed, especially in our office.

I need not to be told or reminded by anyone to conserve energy because this is what I consciously do everyday. This will benefit me greatly in terms of reduced electricity bill, so why would I not practice it? I also make sure that I fully utilize the light coming from the sun before I open any lights in the house. And if I sleep, I just use a dim light :)
