I love cooking mashed potato for my little girl, She's kinda bored if i always cook it conventional way with butter, milk, pinch of salt and seasoning. So i add beef beacon, Sour cream, Onion leaves, some mayo, or brown sauce with mushroom. Can u suggest any other idea to make my mashed potato differently. p/s im a muslim, i dont eat pork. :)

How old is your little girl? If she is old enough to mash her potato with a fork and have her "make" her dish. she will eat it. You can cut the very soft potato pieces and have some butter around. She will not need milk for her own recipe

Get a small fork and put the ingredients beside her plate. Tell her that your sure that her mashed potatoes will be better than the one you are making for the rest of the family. Explain that she has to try what she is doing to see if it needs more butter or maybe a bit of milk. I´m sure she will eat her potatoes before she has finished her very own recipe

Thanks marguicha, she's 6. Maybe she can try making her own mashed potato since she love cooking game so much. I always let her help me cooking too like stirring or anything simple..

Sounds like you have some great ideas already. The best way in my opinion is with some bacon, sour cream, and shredded cheddar cheese you. You could also try making potato pancakes by making patties out of the potatoes like you would hamburger patties and coating them with bread crumbs, then put a little oil in a pan and then fry them until the outside is a little crispy.

One of my absolute favorite ways to change up my mashed potatoes is to roast a few cloves of garlic in olive oil, with a sprig of rosemary. I put it all in the potatoes, the rosemary, the garlic and the olive oil. I then have to add a little bit of butter and milk, still, but oh my goodness the flavor is amazing. You can also mash in parsnips and turnips for an added flavor change. Just peel, dice and boil them with the potatoes. Another thing I've added a few times that came out really nice was tzaziki sauce (that's a Greek yogurt/cucumber sauce) and some feta cheese. Really, don't be afraid to experiment. You can mix anything you like into your mashed potatoes.

Sure, cairalyssa, use a chicken broth instead of milk. Season to taste (let her pick out her favorite toppings), and then top with a sprinkle of shredded cheese. Two good alternatives are mashed sweet potatoes and mashed cauliflower. The more involved she is in creating the dish, the better she will like it. Have fun!

I like potato mashed up with milk or cream, then stir some strongly flavoured grated cheese into it with a teaspoonful of black poppy seeds or toasted sesame seeds.
