Lionel Messi made it a hat trick of wins for the Ballon Dor winning it the third year running. Guardiola went on to win the manager of the year award. Sir Alex went on to win a special lifetime achievement award for his contribution to football.
The World XI that was announced is as follows:
Casillas, Alves, Pique, Ramos, Vidic, Iniesta, Alonso, Xavi, Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney.
Except for Vidic and Rooney all other players are from the Real Madrid and Barcelona!!
What are your views on the awards and the team?
Cheers!

I believe that Messi deserves the award. Whoever follow his matches knows that he is a player with spectacular skills. He is the best at the moment. Many can argue that Christiano Ronaldo is also their but my answer is Messi plays for his team unlike Ronaldo who plays for himself.
For them who thinks that Messi is helpless without Xavi, Iniesta etc. I just want to say them that soccer is a team game. You must need some support in the field to deliver a great performance.
Messi not only scores goal but also create opportunity for others to score unlike Ronaldo.

I think as Barcelona play passing football, then the opponent has to play in man to man marking system combined with speed football like Germany(national) team. And if they can restrict other footballer then the job will be pretty much tough for Messi alone.

Deserved winner and the surely the best player in the world at present.. He has been tremendous for Barcelona and I really dont see the awards changing hands unless Cristaino Ronaldo does something spectacular from now to the end of the season..
As for the team it is a very strong team and I am happy as a Man utd fan we have 2 nominations.. But I am a little surpised at Vidic's inclusion because of his injuries but he was a rock when he played.. This team also clearly shows the gap between the top 2 teams in the world and others.. MAdrid and Barca are so far off from the rest it is going to take some catchup..

Oh yeah!!! I totally forgot about RVP and sadly I think panelists did too!!! He has had a truly phenomenal year, but these teams are mostly dominated by the finalists and the semifinalists of the Champions league, so that could be a reason why RVP missed out.. But still RVP is at present, the most feared striker and hope he can continue this great run without getting injured.. Cheers

i think even his rival admit that messi still contribute for his team , barcelona, no doubt about it..
i agree that about starting eleven, most of them..
but maybe vidic, i must ask it again, why??this season, he get a long injured and can`t contribute maximal for his team

Messi is without peer at the moment. Spain is the current flavour and it is not surprising to see them dominating the squad. The only one that I disagree with is Vidic. He sure is good and his presence is reflective of Man Utd's results. But his year has been disrupted by injuries and for that, I don't think he should be in the squad.

Messi is the best at the moment. All the players in the team are all fantastic performers in their own position so there should not be any disputes on their validity. But we have to bear in mind that this is just a dream team in theory. Players were selected based on what they did in their own team. They have never played together as a team and if they ever do, I doubt whether they can beat Baryen Munich, Juventus, Chelsea, or even Olympique Marseille, 4 teams that without a single nominations. In reality, some of the players in the dream team can never play together for various reasons.

That is true. That is the reason why I would like to see UEFA to schedule a match between the Champions League winner and the Dream Team comprising of players from other clubs other than the winner. In cricket we have such a match every year now, which has off late become very exciting. I would love to see something similar in football.
Cheers!

It will be exciting to see an all-star team but it is just not the same in football compared to cricket or basketball. The larger playing perimeter, more players involved and technical demand in football is far harder to produce a good team in short notice with 11 or more players who may not have played together before, compared to 5 players in basketball and a smaller playing surface. So the game would just be a feel-good game like in the charity games where the scorelines are usually 6-4 or 5-3. I don't think a true game with competitive spirit is possible. The closest to what you suggested that is in place now would be the Super Cup between the Champions League winner and the Europe League winner. But even that is always taken as a warm up match for the season opener rather than a 200km/Hour affair.

Well, Messi is definitely deserved to win those honor for third time and I think he still eligible to get the fourth one if he able to shows same performance this year. Unless other player like CR7 or Xavi shows better performance than him. Actually, european playes has greater chance if they able to show tremendous performance during Euro 2012 while shows best performance with his club as well...
About those 11 players, I think most of the Madrid and Barca players deserved to received it, I just wondering Vidic and Rooney..especially Vidic, he has not played many games on last year with United..I prefer Robin Van Persie rather than Rooney as striker looking at his amazing performance this year...

Exactly my thoughts on Van Persie. I think I would have picked him ahead of Rooney. Probably the fact that Arsenal still did not win any titles last year while United picked up the League title and the Community Shield last year might have tipped it in Rooney's favor.
Cheers!

I think there were no surprises in this year's awards:Messi's obviously the best on the planet and if everything goes normal and he keeps on impressing with his skills he should win the trophy for several more years, unless the get bored and decide to choose someone else as the world's top player.I also think that Guardiola's achievements speak for themselves and he was rightfully named coach of the year, and the choices for the World XI are the right ones, except for Vidic, maybe.
