Everybody knows that it is harmful to smoke. And you want to quit it but it is hard. If you are a smoker, do you have a plan to get rid of it? Do you have a schedule to stop smoking?

I was a pretty big smoker, going through about 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack through a day, but, I have asthma, and I also like to go on big bike rides and such, so it made it much tougher to breathe as I got older, and that's what got me to stop. I mean, it was either, smoke and have to use my inhaler 4 or 5 times a day, or don't smoke, and use it once every few days. Big Difference.
My Mom, on the other hand, smoked for decades... from around the ages of 16 to 61, she smoked. Then, she wanted to quit, along with me quitting... so, she would tell herself how terrible it was, how gross the whole thing was, and how bad it is, every single time she lit up, knowing that she would stop once she finished a carton she was working on. She actually worked on that plan for months, constantly telling herself how it was worse and worse. Then, when she got to the end, she stopped. The first week was a bit stressful, but not that bad, she got past it easily, and now she hasn't smoked for months, and it's really easy for her. Plus, she just doesn't want to ever go back.
For me, I'll still have it here and there, because I do really like it, the taste, the effect, etc etc, but I won't do it any more then once a month... and even that once, I have to keep in a minimum, so I won't start up again. It's really bad for me, and if I start, I'll have loads more problems, so I'm going to keep away from it.

i don't smoke, but my father does. and i hate it. i believe that my father can go ahead and puff his head off; he's old enough to know what's good for himself. but i hate the fact that my sister is at risk because of the 2nd hand smoke. it;s just not healthy for her. I've tried asking my father to quit and we had an agreement that he would 3 years ago. but he went back to it as if we'd never discussed risks and all. i've really given up. i hope he would as easily give his smoking up.

Fortunately for me i have never been a smoker all my life besides i have also dissuaded people from smoking.I am fully aware of the consequences of smoking how it affects not only our lives but also our families and those with whom we are in contact.I have to thank God for this and also keeping me away from all types of addictions.

When will I stop smoking? When I want to stop more than I want to keep smoking. That day is coming closer, but I'm not there yet. I hate to admit it, but most of the time I really do enjoy it, especially when I'm relaxing with my hubby or friends or can finally find so "me" time all to myself. I DO NOT like that there are times when I HAVE to smoke, or that I am addicted to them--but I always end up stopping to get another pack or two. I know all about the health risks, and lately it's been nagging in the back of my mind more. I've smoked since I was 15, and I've have tried to quit before. But I've heard people say that I have to want to quit for me, and I've found that that is true. Do I have a plan to quit? Not right now...maybe in a year or two. But I will quit when I'm ready.

I'm not a believer in scheduling when you're going to quit smoking. I smoke, but I had quit before. It lasted for 4 years but went back to this habit. But the manner in which I quit that time wasn't scheduled. I mean, I quit cold turkey. I still think that's the best way to quit. It's hard but doable.
