http://www.wyff4.com/news/30180330/detail.html On Sunday January 07, 2012, police officers in Aiken, SC, noticed a 3 year old girl wandering around with her dog. On checking further, the child told them she had taken her dog for a walk & couldn't remember how to get home. She also couldn't tell them her address. Assuming that she hadn't traveled very far, the officers started going door to door to see if anybody recognized the little girl. That wasn't working & when they tried to think of something else, one of the officers noticed the dog had a microchip which meant it was registered with the city. So, the microchip was scanned & the child was driven straight to her home. Her parents said they had laid down & taken a nap & didn't even realize their daughter was missing. I'm wondering how long it will be before we are encouraged to microchip our children...what you think???

I know if I had a missing child that I'd want any device possible to locate them. However, I also know how such identifications could be used & abused!!! Even a barcode could bring danger to your child later on in life. The government would then have the ability to track & confirm everybody!!! Any perceived infraction could bring dire consequences!!!

Microchip our kids now aye? But it was very lucky that her dog was micro chipped or else the police would take forever to find the poor little girl's home. How far could have that girl have gone? It's pretty beneficial to have your pets micro chipped, not only to find them but maybe your kids too in this case! Also, some dogs can be stranded out in the streets and what if that dog bit someone? Now if that dog was not micro chipped, you wouldn't have anyone to blame and that's tragic to be bitten by a dog. I have heard stories of kids being killed by dogs before. I watched a show in which a cat that went missing for several days and the owners were very worried. Turned out, they found the cat in another state! That's the benefit of micro chipping. Turned out the cat hitched a ride with another family to another state.

Both the dog & the child were lucky the dog had the microchip & I do understand the benefit of microchiping!!! However, I have lived long enough to see the end result of lies that we've been convinced were for our own good also!!! In my opinion, microchipping a child is useless unless it includes a tracking device. Then if it does indeed include a tracking device, there is the clear & present danger of abuse !!!

Hey, I resemble that remark!!! OK, OK, I'm off to the Humane Society tomorrow to get mine!!! You do know they already have GPS enabled shoes for the old folk don't you??? They're billed for those with Alzheimer. Those people forget everything but to put on their shoes & they don't have to know you're tracking them!!!

Thank heavens that the police thought to scan the dog LadyM. I think that microchipping children might be a little big brotherish and you have to consider this in context. How many children go missing compared to the number of children that do not etc. what age would the be "de-chipped"? Or perhaps we should all be chipped that way we would all be intantly identifiable. Not for me though. I dislike the very idea of it.

The thought of putting a chip in a child bothers me as we don't know everything that might possibly go wrong. PLUS the big brother aspect becomes waaay too real!!! Oh come on p1key, I think you'd be the perfect candidate for a chip!!!

With so many missing children on milk cartons I think chipping could be helpful. Maybe have a GPS in it too so that kidnapped kids could be found.

WOW...I wondered how long it would take to add the GPS??? Third response is remarkable!!! As good as the idea sounds, what happens when the kidnapper who is insane enough to kidnap a child tries to remove the GPS so they can't be found??? Yes, I'm playing the Devil's advocate here, but if somebody doesn't care that they are stealing your child, what is to stop their thought process when they realize there is a GPS & decides to cut it out to thwart capture??? Also, what happens when our government decides they don't like your child's activities or friends. They wouldn't hesitate to track your child down like an animal & eradicate!!! Yes, most parents like to think they are raising the perfect child; however, life has proven to me that a certain percentage will turn out with criminal tendencies. So, what if your child is the kidnapper??? Would you really want to be the one that turns them in??? I don't know many Mothers who would call the cops & say my child is in my den...come pick him/her up. To me, it is the same difference!!!

In the Christian worlds they would reject this idea they think that would be the mark of the beast.

I'm a Christian & I don't see it as the mark of the beast. I do see it possibly being turned into something harmful!!!

In my country, it is compulsory to have the dog microchipped. Owners can be fined if they do not do so. As for microchipping the children, they are now available and in used. How? Facebook, Twitter and smartphones. People like to tag the location that they are in to use in the facebook and twitter. As for smartphone, once the location-based function is turned on, then it is as good as being microchipped.
