How can parents kill their children like this?

Warning: This discussion is rather long...(not too long) if you don't want to read it, just pass it by.
I lost it awhile ago… I couldn’t help but cry watching this show on TV. It was about kids of killers. There were these 3 little girls who were going to be killed by their dad. He killed their mother, and he killed two little girls… slit their throats. He drove them someplace and took the littlest one and leaned half way out of the car and held the little girl by her hair and slit her throat… then he dumped the little girl down in a ravine. Next was another little girl.. and finally the last little girl.. she was about 3 years old. He slit her throat too.. and threw her down the ravine also. Then he drove away. That one girl recovered and she tried out on American Idol 10.
They thought when she was little that she might not even be able to speak but she grew up to be able to sing. I don’t know if she ever placed in American Idol… I don’t really remember her from there. Do you remember her? She would have told her story. She has written a book too… but I don’t remember what the name of the book is. I don’t know the girls name and I don’t know the name of the book.. if anyone knows… I would love to buy the book to read it.
Do any of y’all remember her from American Idol? I’m going to google it and see what I can find out. What do you think could make a father kill his own children like that? We have talked on discussions about the soul, and God… and so forth… I just can’t imagine a parent being able to look a little child in the face and slit her throat… can you?
Please share any thoughts that you have. Any at all. Let’s discuss whatever comes to mind here.

I agree. I feel this man was very sick in his head. I wonder if he even had a soul.

NO, I absolutely can NOT imagine how a parent could look into those trusting eyes & betray that trust!!! I haven't heard of this story so I don't know the book your looking for.
This story reminds me of Susan Smith. She was the Mother back in the '90s that claimed her children had been kidnapped by a black man when she had strapped them into their child seats & rolled her car into a nearby lake. An acquaintance of mine was good friends with her & said one of the children was petrified of water & she forced him to die in a way that scared him most.
I don't know if God forgives crazy people or not, but I prefer to think parents like this have reserved their spot in hell!!!

I think that some people have list their soul somewhere. How they could be so evil I just don't know. The second link on the first response tells of her. She remembers it. She was just 3 years old.

I would think that would be an emotion burned into a child's brain for life no matter how young when it happened!!! I hope I NEVER find out what it's like to be that kind of parent!!!

" I just can’t imagine a parent being able to look a little child in the face and slit her throat… can you?"
In many ways, this is a primary reason that society is such a mess. All the government stuff, all the social stuff and all the legal stuff is created and run by people who simply CANNOT imagine such barbarity. We're too civilised to think that such horrific things are possible. We're too middle-class, too protected, too surrounded by fluffy duvets with pictures of cute ducks on them.
And even when we DO hear about such things, we don't WANT to. We put them away in a dark corner of our mind and try to forget them - as you said yourself, "I don’t remember what the name of the book is. I don’t know the girls name and I don’t know the name of the book."
It's perfectly natural, of course. I just feel SO sorry for the front-line people who have to deal with this kind of horror on a daily basis: the police, the firemen/women, paramedics, judges, social workers... they're tougher than I could be, I think!

Hi Spike,
You are right. I don't want to hear about things like this. I rarely watch the news because I cannot stomach to hear about violence against children and animals. I get haunting pictures in my head for days after hearing about stuff like this. I too feel bad for the people most affected by this type of violence.

Indeed, humanity is capable of some sick things. And parents who would do such a thing to a child is obviously the low end of the totem pole as far as the sick things that they can do is. There seem to be more stories every time you turn around, news about parents doing something rather horrific to a child, and not all of those horrific things end in murder. But some of them might make the child in question on some level wish it did.
And the scary thing is, for all of the news we hear on this level, there are countless more incidents. It is to the point where absolutely nothing can be done that surprises me any more. Sickens yes, revolts yes, makes me wish that there should be some kind of screening process for parents, you better believe it. I mean, killing someone is bad enough, but to do it to your own flesh and blood, your own child...its becoming way too common, especially in the disgusting way it was done.

Yes, I agree. There are many more cases than what hits the news, or that we remember hearing or watching on the news. We hear of murders like the poor little Caylee Anthony… and some folks get off from a murder charge just because there has been no proof. Since that case, there has been more cases of where mothers or fathers have killed their children. For every one that we hear there are probably more than 10 that we haven’t heard of or more. Something has to be wrong in the head of parents that have no feeling for their children. They think so little of them that they can just kill them without even their conscience bothering them.

Many parents are not fiercely protective of their kids, many would not die to save their children. Some parents don't even like their children, some don't care at all having absolutely no mental or spiritual connection with their children.
Some people are unhinged so killing is not about whether they are a parent to their victim. The victim symbolises something I guess but I'm no profiler.
There are probably legitimate reasons for all the scenarios I have given, each as unique as the people involved.
Do we hate the killer? Does God? Do we pray for the killer, pray for his soul's redemption? It's not a perfect world - not even close.

A very sad commentary on human madness. Have been seeing a lot of such incidents here in India. Momentary impulse, insanity and desperation keep getting quoted in these people's defense. Law keeps being 'humane' to these killers, who were not humane to their victims. I am pro-life, so I want him to rot in the prison for a very very long time. His sentence will bring a closure to him, not to the girl. A very depressing incident.
On the positive side, I am amazed by the story of the girl's survival and am floored by her healthy outlook despite the harrowing experience she has had. She is a winner all the way and an example for all of us on how to cope with the darkest moments of our lives and come out relatively unscathed. I hope and pray that this brave girl meets success all through her life, she has earned it.

Yes, this girl is an amazing survivor. I'm sorry she didn't win a place on American Idol but she is a winner.
