How's your year going so far? We are two weeks in now and I expect that all the resolutions etc are a memory. I made no New Year promises but am now rethinking. On 3 January I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. That has rather taken the shine off my year already. I don't yet know if I have tumours elsewhere so it is a bit nerve wracking. However it has made me think about my life and whar I do with it. Time to be less selfish and learn to live more. Enjoy what we have and not try to fill our lives with baubles and trinkets that ultimately are entirely worthless. To be remembered for being generous and giving in love and spirit. We pass this way but once. Let's make the most of it.

What a horrible way to learn such a valuable lesson!!! Ms Sparky very eloquently spoke what we ALL feel!!! I hope you know that NO matter what it is that you need, your friends WILL be here for you!!! I know this one will!!! PM me anytime my dear friend!!!
I NEVER make New Year's Resolutions simply because I disappoint myself when I break them!!! And I HATE it when that happens!!!

First let me say that I will certainly be praying for your health. I believe that we should live each day as if it is our last. However, many of us don't do that and we forget to live that way. I hope that this is the year that they find a cure for cancer!

I am so sorry to hear this bad news. What is your prognosis? A few weeks ago I shared in your good news about your kidney. I never knew about this new cancer diagnosis. I am truly sorry and wish you a complete recovery.
You are so right about baubles and trinkets being meaningless. Generous with loving and caring is forever.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My goodness that is a very costly error. I think I would be tempted to get a second opinion and make sure nothing else has been "missed" or any other errors. Hopefully there may be good news in your future. Keep us posted.

I thought that it was good news too. However, the tumour was "missed", thankfully a later scan of my gall bladder went wide and picked up the tumour. I now reject everythinbg about that first scan and am unhappy at the result. However, I have to accept that it was not deliberate and a simple error. But one that might have cost me my life. Thank you so much for your thougts and prayers. That means an awful lot to me.

"To be remembered for being generous and giving in love and spirit. We pass this way but once. Let's make the most of it."
YOU my dear friend, have been doing this for me and many others since your presence first graced this site and we all flocked to you for your wit, kindness, sense of fair play and the old fashioned 'gentlemanliness' that you exude with every word and gesture.
You will beat your cancer. I know it. You have already overcome obstacles just as great.........
And you will continue to 'pass the way but once', making the most of every friendship you have garnered, in your own way that means so much to so many.
As for me and this new year.........I struggle, but I too will overcome. With a role model like you, how could I not?!

hi pikey oh my gosh I am sorry and hope it has not spread. here I was feeling all sorry for myself as I am ill with a nasty case
of flu. I can image this has really dampened the new year for
you.But hopefully the cancer is still just in your kidney.I can
see it makes you take a new prospective of your life.yes we all
need to think of life like that, you are being very brave about
it,I am sending prayers that its contained and not spread and that
you will get well and lead a longer happy life again. I hope my fellow mylotters will join me in sending more prayers that your cancer is contained and can be readily cured and you go on for more happy years again. take care. God Bless.

Dear P1ke as you know I was shocked when I got the news about you being diagnosed with cancer. You know some more about your condition by now and I guess things will be all right with you and it will be quite easy to get that enemy out of the system.
BTW I dont think you are living a selfish life. When you saw work life was not good for you you were willing to make do with less, rather do the housekeeping for a while so you can pick up the pieces and take time to recover first. Instead of then saying you got to make money and go back to what ever you are showing the cathedral to people and you guide them through it, thats something lovely to do.
Hugs to you you know I am thinking of you often.......

Thank you Moo. I am sorry to learn that things are not so good for you. I hope that bookings pick up this year. You offer something different and I would have thought that was an attractive alternative to the usual sun, sea and sand. Wallowing is OK sometimes - but trying to stay positive is the best thing even though that can be hard. XX

But I failed to answer your question.
The New Year hasn't been great here so far, but your news plus similar recently from another friend, puts things into perspective.
I resolve today, seeing as I didn't bother at New Year, to get off my butt and stop wallowing.
The best to you P1kefish xx

I'm sorry to hear that P1key, not a good start to your new year. Am thinking of you, and hope that your next news is better than the last. I like your attitude, I think lots of people can learn from you, re: trinkets and baubles and things :)
So far my year has been good. Working lots and planning a party for my daughter's birthday. You take care of yourself.

How old is your daughter now? 3 or 4? They grow fast but, daughters at least, still like to cuddle. Mine gets into bed with me every morning and she is 23 next month! LOL. Thank you for your thoughts. Not a good start but I intend to be as positive as I can be.

She's 6 now!! I can't believe how fast she is growing. That's sweet that your daughter does that, I'm glad that the cuddles may continue for a while yet. Mine still likes cuddles, but she has turned very cheeky, and sometimes when you think you're going to get a cuddle you end up getting tickled or climbed upon .
Glad you are being positive. Hope you can get out and enjoy the spring day we're meant to be having tomorrow. :)

Hello, Pikey. I'm so sorry to hear this. A dear friend of ours is now battling lymphoma for the second time in two years, so while I can't know what you're going through, I do know the effect it must be having on you and the family, as we are all trying to keep positive for our friend, and particularly for his wife. They have no family here in Spain, and although the treatment is first class, you need your family around you at a time like this.
What I can tell you - although you may not believe it now - is that your sense of humour will help you through, because that's exactly what happened with our friend first time around, and it's happening again now. Once the reality has sunk in, the real person surfaces, and he is so much like you, I think you must have been twins who were separated at birth. Despite the prognosis - which is not good - we're sharing a lot of laughs. There are some tears as well of course, but the laughs are winning out.
Once you know exactly what you're dealing with, and what's to be done about it, you'll feel better. It's the waiting around and uncertainty that really sucks. It's a battle, and once it's joined, things probably won't seem so bad as they do now.
If good wishes can get you through this, mate, you'll be home and dry. You certainly have all my best wishes, and my prayers. I'll go and have a vodka to steady my nerves - thanks for the excuse!

Maybe I could join yoi in the vodka Sandra? I am overwhelmed ny good wishes and prayers. I am truly a blessed boy. I hope that you friend pulls though. It's a real jolt when you are first told. Almost surreal like it is somebody else! However, no point in moping. Be positive is my motto.

Nooooooo!!!!
Holy cr@p P1key, that's no good my friend.
I know of plenty of people who have cured themselves of cancer with natural remedies, plus I have seen many documentaries on the subject where people have also had great success.
So if you want some ideas, please feel free to ask. I will not bash these down your throat though as I know that some people prefer to go down the path of traditional western medicine. I have not much faith in it myself, but some do.
If I was a religious man I would pray for your health, but I am not so I won't. But I do wish you the very best with this and I will be thinking of you.
Get well mate and stay positive. Being positive is one of the keys to recovery. Believe you will be cured! :-)

Thanks Bill. I am waiting for surgery to remove the tumour and then I should be clear. My scans show no other growths and my lymphatic system is clear. I did try a sodium bicarb programme but of course with high BP the sodium was doing me more harm than good. I am positive about it all. I have this for a reason and it is making me take a very clear view about my life. Hope that all is well with you and yours.

That is great news that the scans show it only being localised (so far at least) and the main thing is keeping it out of the lymph system. Very hard to recover if it gets into there.
I am not familiar with the sodium bicarb programme. I mainly know about plant based cures (from plants you can grow yourself) plus Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy as in "The one minute cure"
I know that you will stay positive.
We have had a drama filled start to the year too, hence my lack of recent activity here. I broke my collar bone on January first...yep, Happy New Year to me too! So I have had some time out for reflection as well.
My one and only discussion for the last five months was about this and posted just the other day. Take care...Bill :-)

yep exactly ! the first week was good and then come week 2 snitches are out LOL
they have been trying to ruin my efforts starting a new life after separation. what for? money of course.
I let it go. and they are still trying to take more LOL
with some health concerns need attending to, I'm not letting them ruin my health
they can take the money, they will lose it either way
I leave it to karma as I am living my life and attend to my health
it's nothing like tumors but still hampering my efforts to get a job as I don't look /feel healthy and I can't focus

Hopefully things turn out for the best for you. As for me, the year is rather going to be something that is going rather well. Granted, its not great, but it has been rather steady. Then almost two weeks in and things are rather going a bit so, but by the end of January, into February certainly, there is a pretty good idea of what the year might bring.
I do have my fingers crossed that this will be a year that will end up rather good. However, there have been times where I have found myself rather disappointed for a number of reasons. Let us hope that 2012 is going to be a year where it is most peaceful. I think that is really the best that many of us can hope for after what has been going on in the world. So let us hope for a good 2012 for all.

You go for the best possible treatment, but at the same time do breathing exercises as taught by Ramdev Baba of India regularly, am sure it will help
Best of luck.

omg i am so sorry your year started off that way. I hope you get well soon. Disease is the one thing I wish not even my enemies would suffer from :(( I hope you have a great year and a healthy one too
My year has started off good i must say. I am back in school and things have been seeming to fall into places and I have been seeing a lot of opportunities. 2011 was so bad and I really hope it doesnt get repeated again and I hope 2012 is a great year for everyone!

I don't make New Year promises either, already not since years. My health is not great and I always hope just to get old enough that my little ones can do without me and remember me. Also I try to do as much as possible with them and show them a part of the world. This year I want to travel more which means: enjoy more. Am (and always was) way too busy with ...? But never with myself.
You say: it's time to be less selfish.. but I think it's time be be more selfish. We seldom do what we really like and we all run out of time. I agree with you we should not fill our lives with baubles and trinkets... I hope the New Year will bring you something great. In the end it's not the quantity that counts but the quality. Blessings for you.

I have reached the stage in my life where I find that I derive great pleasure in doig things for others. In itself that might be a form of selfishness. What I meant by saying that really is that for many the daily slog is undertaken without aim or direction. Money is needed so we work. The more that we get the more we spnd on ourselves whether we need to or not. We become insular and only focussed on our needs and more often, wants. On one level there is nothing wrong with that at all. On another it cuts us off from what life is about. Thank you for your blessings. I hope that your health will improve this year and that you mamage to get some rest.
