It's not really that I don't know how to cook, I can cook for our daily meals only. What I don't know are those dishes that you can usually see during feasts, banquets, and other occasions. I have a collection of recipe books cause I like to read recipes but not to cook what's in the books.

Pahak, since you have lots of recipe books, then you should practice to cook each recipe as often as possible. Then only you will be able to cook special recipe for special occasion. Everything needs practice to make it perfect. I also learned to upgrade my knowledge about a number of different types of recipes through practice. Hope to hear that you are able to cook varieties of recipes in future. Good luck to you...

Pahak and CT, indeed you should always learn to identify the ingredients first before you attempt to mix them together, to form a new recipe. Because some ingredient just can't be mix together with another different ingredient. It will makes the dishes turned different taste.

Unless if one is genius he/she does not have to learn to about the simple dishes, just give them anything they will make it turn great! I haven't heard or know anyone who got that special ability. All I know everyone start with a very simple menu then slowly to difficult. I am not very good in identifying ingredients. I always asked for my family help if I don't know how they looks like.(^^) @myfb Do you get my reply about my email address sis???

Thanks for that, I may do that too often. I'll also have to familiarize the ingredients since I don't know some of it which are in english and filipino. You know I discover an ingredient that I thought I don't know because it was in english but when I know it, I just laughed it out because it's a very common ingredient that I saw in our stores and groceries here.

Of course, if we are not accustomed to cooking those intricate dishes, it would be difficult to cook them for the first time. It is important that before trying to cook a recipe, you should understand the cooking terminologies. If you know the cooking term, then it will be easy for you to carry out the instructions, taking note specially of the measurements. Your first time may be perfect, but over time, it will be. Constant practice is a great way to learn.

Sometimes, the recipe seems easy to follow. But when the execution comes, sometimes it's difficult. And when you taste the result and find it not good, you would wonder what went wrong?

Yes that's what I'm doing to familiarize the ingredients and the cooking terminologies. it really seems easy to cook while you are reading the recipe.

One can learn cooking out of compulsion or out of necessity. You can also attempt by cooking as per recipe books. Best is to be guided by your parents or other relatives who know good cooking.

Yes I agree with you both... I happened to have a friend who taught me how to cook rice cakes. At that time, I knew from her but I'm not really inclined to be a good cook. I lost interest on the recipe. It's not my favorite food anyway.

As you yourself had mentioned here that you can cook your daily meals so it means you can cook...The recipe books are not for reading they are to be followed. I think you are a bit afraid of trying new dishes..just try once..the simplest recipe which you can find you will get good results..even if you think its not going to work find classes for cooking and join it..It will certainly help you..

Before, honestly I really don't know how to cook any food, I can only do frying egg, hotdogs and other stuff.. but then when my mom got sick, and I can't rely on her soon, I pushed myself to learn about it.. I asked her every time I cook and she taught me about it.. I have gather so many recipe books and one by one I get to learn from it.. somehow I can now cook food for feast and other occasions.. the tool that I did was, I experiment and if I fail or the food doesn't taste good I'll repeat it again because I finally knew my mistakes..:0

Youtube.com likely has a lot of cooking videos you can watch. There are also many cooking shows on television if you get the right channels. Articles on the internet can help too. If you like to cook and also to eat, I think you will do very well as practice will make perfect.

Various dishes - How to cook them?
It takes patience to learn cooking variety of meals. Recipe books are helpful but you must really take time experimenting and through this you will learn. It actually takes a lot of trials and errors before you can perfect your cooking but certainly if you really are serious in your desire to learn cooking you can always achieve expertise. You just have to invest time and effort.

Cooking is easy. Start with one recipe you know and make slight changes in it. Keep experimenting with tiny changes. You will see what works and what doesn't.

You want to say that you read recipes and you don't cook them? I don't understand how your appetite is not raised up while reading? Well, I put a lot of effort to cook a meal if I'm craving for it. The pleasure is so great at the end when the result is so tasty and the recipe has succeeded.

I really don't know. I don't feel that my appetite raised up while reading the recipe. Believe it or not but that's true. Maybe because I'm just used to reading recipes that is why I don't feel it.

Hi pahak, Happy New Year...I am with you I can cook also daily meals but not banquets meals either...But youn know what I don't need to cook banquets meals...It pretty to look at but some of that food looks like its to pretty to eat...As long as I am able to feed my family (when I cook) I am very gratedul...I save the banquets meals for the professionals. No way would I ever but that type of stress on myself...Now if there is some thing I see I would like to make sure I would give it a try but I do know that I am not a professional and even tho I might follow the receipe to the T there is still not guarantee that its going to come out looking or tasting like the picture... Oh well, that didn't come out so great, but I am stll a great cook and that I know.....

I can cook, but I wouldn't say I am good, but there are few dishes that I know I make it good and love ones like it! I also get nervous if I know I am cooking and there will be visitors coming, specially those aren't close to me! Maybe you should start cooking some of the dishes in your cookbook that you can cook during feast, you'll never know unless you try!

Yes, I'll be doing that in my spare time. I can only do it during weekends when I'm off from work. Comparing myself with my cousin who is really a chef, I feel that I'm just an ant while she is a cat when it come to our knowledge in cooking. She is so fast while cooking voluminous amount of one dish. I even envied her because she made it her livelihood. Accepting orders for special occasions.

I am the same way. I went from my house to my boyfriends mom's house to a roommate's house so I never got the chance to experiment. I finally got my own apartment 3 years ago and ever since then I have been cooking. I do simple dishes and every so often maybe like once a month I will try something different. I have a bunch of recipe books so sometimes the dish sounds good but looks different and I have not really tried many dishes in the book. But my advice to you is to keep trying and different recipes and you will learn.

Yes, I agree with you. I don't think many people do like to cook because all the food preparations do take a lot of time and effort to complete for the day. I like to try to learn how to cook and try to make all kinds of different dishes. I like to watch all kinds of cooking shows on television and read the recipes online too. I hope you are able to become a better cook as well.
