The speed of my laptop is coming down steadily. I check for virus using aviva free edition. there is no virus.
I tried to clear the temporary files in C drive by going to properties - disk clean up -every time I do that say within a day itself I get "thumbnails" -- 4 mb or 6 mb size and am clearing it. Why it is forming like that?
Can this --forming of thumbnails be the reason for slow speed.? Please share your experience.

i am no expert about computers and stuff like this, but my hunch is that it can be. I am also having problems with loading of pictures and videos whenever I have slow connection, and thumbnails keep appearing as a result. Also, the slowness of the processing of the pictures can be brought about the low memory available for the processing to use in loading the pictures. I have done the same thing as you are and no virus was detected by my antivirus. So I guess it is either the slow processing due to the internet speed or the slow processing of the computer itself.

Internet speed is very good 4 mbps. But possibly due to virus and reigstry entries it is getting slowed down. let me check up. thanks for info.
However many people have told that thumbnails formation may not slow down laptop.

A Windows OS tracks everything you have done in your computer and it progressively slows it. Except reinstalling Windows -- or switching to Linux -- there is nothing to do to avoid it : an optimizer -- you can try Nirsoft CleanAfterMe : http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/clean_after_me.html -- or a defragmenter will not help a lot here.

Everytime I am experiencing laptop speed goes down, I execute this freeware called Advanced System Care 5 because it scans and repairs fixed problems. It is a sort of a registry boot that clears problem files but it is much better than this one. Somehow, it worked for me. I do this everytime I suspects my laptop's speed slows down. It took only 10 - 15 minutes to scan and repair files.

thumbnails never slow your computer they created by system to quick view of your pics. Cleaning of temp file etc you already done is basic job for gain some space, U can also Clear prefetch directory in window folder.
most important thing how many process your computer running, can all are required, stop them change automatic to manual in service area.
Secondly when u installed any software many registry entry are created and remain there even you uninstalled the software. Try for clearing unused registry entry by software. I used Norton 360 Paid antivirus included this all tools. Cost me $17 for Yr. Before it I also used free antivirus and some other optimizer tools but free version never keep you full happy.

The thumbnails themselves, as you say, don't slow the PC down but Windows' habit of constantly reindexing them may do (depending on the speed of the CPU and the available RAM).
CCleaner is a very good (and free) utility for removing temporary files and redundant registry entries. Norton certainly works but it has always (since the mid '90s, anyway) suffered from being far too large and memory hungry. I also dislike the way it is marketed - the 'trial version' is piggy-backed into the installation of many softwares and PCs and I consider that unethical.

Ashvin:
Thanks. Norton anti virus I learnt will further slow down the laptop. I am happy to know that you are comfortable with Norton. I checked up it cost Rs. 3728. this works out to $75 approximately.
How you wee able to get it for $ 17.

The cost doesnt matter actually because in international market a particular commodity can have various price depending upon the country. Coming to the topic how about using kaspersky. I am using it and it is better than norton. Of course norton is really inefficient.

hi rave I see you have already got a lot of good information and help
just wanted to say keeping your anti virus on for long periods of time really slows down your computer. I foumd that I cou ld program my microsoft antivirus to do a complete scan one day a week while I was at lunch and my computer runs a lot faster which it should as I
have Time Warner's cable internet Jack Rabbit speed. but I do find
even them mylkot itself sometimes loads slow, most time med. fast
and I know its not my computer as its fast on all other sites

Hatley aunty : thanks aunty. Yes the speed depends on internet connection. Now I have airtel internet speed 4 mbps. this is a good speed. Rarely mylot site itself moves slowly because of thousands of people logging in at the same time. That is good for mylot and also for us.

Thumbnails are created by Windows explorer to show you those small preview pictures of image files, they are created by default (but can be completely disabled very easily). Viruses in almost every case, have nothing to do too.
More common causes are primarily insufficient hardware to run advanced and newer programs, too many programs open (including those hidden running in the background), insufficient free HD space or in some cases high CPU/GPU temperatures.
Just a few questions, what OS do you have? And what hardware are you using? Are you using some special, resource hungry program or many things at the same time?

Hi
i use CCleaner and Spybot to clean my PC from internet remains. I do not if these programs might help you but you can try. These are freeware so you will not have to pay anything at all.
