Laptops in class

I went to a high school where students were allowed to have laptops in class but Facebook had been locked. Now in university there are a select few students who do not bring laptops to class. I have been wondering if it is better for a student to come to a class and spend the entire time on their laptop or not show up at all?

i think it is just alright f0r a school to locked certain sites in school, so that the students can focus more on researching for school, than browsing other sites while in school. The students can check out facebook or other sites when they are out from school. Facebook is a distraction to a student's life in some sense, it is not always that good.

Amen! There are few students who agree with such statements. But I think its true through and through. Yes it has caused less talking in class because of chat, but it is still a distraction and I personally am of the opinion that if you are going to show up at all then have some decency to respect the person who is getting up to speak in front of over 100 people DAILY!

There are reasons why I bring my laptop with in school is that for educational purpose like reporting of research and the other reason was for entertainment..

I brought mine for almost a year under the impression that it was for "research" and just ended up playing games for hours on end. I believe that if you are going to bring it to class you should be paying attention because there is not always going to be someone there to have your back later in life and uni is a good place to start learning that.
