I have a new site! Now what?

I just started a new site last night, I'm still updating it and everything but I want to get it out there as well. When I was promoting my blog it went rather slow, and now it still does but its getting better. So I'm thinking, I want to do the promotion of this site differently. I'm not sure what to do though, I know of course to post links on facebook and forums etc I use. The question is what else should I do? The internet is so vast, its amazing how anyone can make themselves found among the sites that have been around forever and are still up to date. What are your tips to help with such things? Have you had a site before, or have you seen what others have done?
