Jesus Spoke in Parables: Do You Know Them?

Here come the longer chapters of Matthew. It's when Jesus spoke in parables. Do you know any of them and what they mean? I think there were four. The most famous one, in my opinion, would be the one about the sower and the seeds. What are the others and what did they mean? Getting a little deep, I know. But it makes for an interesting discussion. It's in Matthew 13 btw.

The parable of the mustard seed.
The mustard seed was the smallest seed a farmer used. Jesus used this parable to show that the kingdom has small beginnings but will grow and produce great results.
The parable: The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: which indeed is the least of all seeds: when grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. (KJV)

Pretty awesome. I would imagine a mustard seed is even smaller than small and yet creates a very big tree. No wonder He tells us that if we even have faith as small as a mustard seed we can do great things.

Hi, I’m Mat and I remember the King one day after leaving Graceland was cruising around Memphis and lots of people were hanging out by the beach. He made his way to the A&W where he talked in the way of a parable in fact in any other way he would not converse.
He said look man, go out to gas up the Cadillac and try to buy some leaded gas but the flying times have ate it all up. Other pumps will be selling cheaper stuff but have leaky tanks and because it is mostly water wouldn’t make your mo-joe go. Other places sell unleaded but have little octane and make the motor stutter. Still others have the good premium brand and it will made your engine go and with that win the race. Let him that has a street rod listen.
So the band came up to him and said why do you speak so and in reply he said to them, “you it is granted to understand the motown beat and whether they like it or not we will sing the gospel....thank you very much.”

I was hoping no one would take offense but was thinking too as well, seriously, if Jesus walked today in human form with us what he would say. I think common things for all the regular folks would be in order so we could understand through simple illustrations something much more complex and complicated but still dear to our hearts. I'm always amazed that common people were even considered and given such a wonderful gift from him.

You both bring a smile to my face. Wish I was as witty and clever.

Do you have any questions about any of them?
I'll tackle the shortest one in verse 44. The kingdom of God is so valuable and precious that those who come to understand it and appreciate it's value will give up whatever they have to make sure that they become part of God's kingdom. No price is to high!

Actually that is more the explanation to verses 44-45 but pretty similar to verse 44.
Most people don't come to appreciate how valuable is God's kingdom. But that man ensures he gets the treasure by buying the field. He is willing to pay the price. Are we?

Yes, I do know what are those and I think it is not only two. When I was young Is studied in a Catholic school and the Parables were taught to us every year. One of the Parable that I can't forgot is the Parable of the Prodigal Son.

That was a beautiful story of forgiveness, redemption and unconditional love.
