I just purchased a new Gateway laptop three months ago, and within the month
of getting it I got a virus...I started receovong email from my contacts
with "no subject" so I thought it was ligit because it was from diferent
contacts of mine but they were viruses...It never darn on me that they
were not regular emails from people on my contact list...
Anyway that computer is being repaired...I am on a laptop now but this
one is so very slow...I will be back in business when I get the new one
back..
But don't you just hate the thought of someone else invading your privacy
to that extent that it interupts your life......makes me really annoyed....

Well, live and learn I guess. The virus you speak of has been around along time. Maybe you should fine a forum online that would speak to you about viruses. I just started a discussion about one i heard of so maybe start on here. Do you have a good anti-virus on your computer? I would make sure of that. Check www.downloads for free ones if you like. Good luck to you!

I don't even think of going online without an active and updated AV.
As you have unfortunately found out, address books/contact lists can be hijacked and malware sent via your personal contacts. Be wary of things like a bunch of [No Subject] messages from multiple contacts who normally include a subject title or any subject that sounds out of character. I always use the preview pane before opening messages, even from my contacts.
You never know, and you can never be too careful.

I have had emails from my personal contacts with a subject that just didn't ring right. By previewing them, I can usually tell if they're bogus. If in doubt, I will not...do not...open it. I do alert my contact that their address book may have been hijacked, so they can handle the situation.

Especially if they're doing it just for fun. I was not as unluckey as you. I just had to reinstall the operating system. Of course that was annoying too because I had to go on the websites and install some of the programs I had. and the bookmarks. But yeah, they don't have nothing better to do then destroy someone else's property.

Hi marty thanks for responding but I am truly technically challegened
when it comes to computers and what you said to me went right over my
head, except your last line....LOL...I don't even know what a bookmark is
on the computer...if I had any idea what you did I might could have went
that route myself...
But we at least are on the same page about these jackazzes who do the
damage to others property....thanks again...

I really wish you could hit a reply button and give it back to the person who sent it to you in the first place. My desktop is down now with a virus! I bought myself a net laptop though for Christmas as its getting older and I needed a new one anyway...but I miss it. It's like an old friend.

Annoy is a soft term to use. It makes me very mad when this thing happen. I really don't know why there are unscrupulous people who not only intrude on your privacy but also intends to cause damage not only to your stuff, but your life as well. I've gotten several emails which contained viruses. I was fortunate that the viruses were probably not that strong since it was immediately blocked by the antivirus software I have.

Yes very annoying, I am lucky to have a friend that is a wizard when it comes to the computer and he looks after mine and since he has been looking after it I have just had a few suspicious things that sometimes get picked up as viruses but fortunately were not....

Yes it is rather annoying to say the very least. Especially when viruses come in so many shapes and sizes, and there are just going to be a lot of frustration to try and figure out what is actually infecting the computer. Then we have to consider the steps that are going to be taken to really deal with it to say the very least. And viruses can sneak onto your computer if you're really not careful.
What is the worst is you are one of the "fortunate" ones to get struck with a brand new virus that someone got whipped up. Before the various anti-virus providers that have discovered. It has happened to me one time and it was lucky I managed to figure out how to purge it from my computer, but it took many days, much help, and a lot of four letter words that I can't print here.

Happened me a few times already, and yes, it's really annoying. But never to the point of invading my privacy. Anyway, that damn thing make me leave my work for a while to take care of the virus, and since it already bypassed my antivirus I had to do it by hand. A nice technical challenge, but not when it's on my own machine.
The worst infection I ever had was one that seemed to damaged my system so badly that it was crashing every few minutes, so a full reinstall was necessary.

I haven't had a virus on the computer that I've been using for the last 3 years as yet. However, I've had viruses happen on computers of mine in the past, and it was very annoying and expensive to fix. Often times I had to have everything wiped out and have my hard drive replaced. It's just one of those tough things that happens. All we can do is try to protect our computers to the best of our abilities.

Have I?
Ouch, so many times!
Experience is the best teacher - and now I really have a big concern with my computer's security. I always update the latest version of anti virus, never installed anything suspicious, do the regular virus scan, and such.
Now I can happily say that virus wasn't annoying me much anymore in the past months..

The problem is falling for the talk that these hackers dish out - it all seems so legitimate. So don't be too harsh on yourself for being taken in. Many others have too.
You can have anti-virus programs and firewalls to protect you but if you get taken in by the smooth talk and actually invite the hackers in, there is no protection out there that will save you.

Yups, we've got to be very careful when opening any emails. Most viruses come from emails. Today, I feel that my pc is a bit slower than usual. I tried to open my facebook with firefox but to no avail. Some of my files stored in the root of my domain is also missing. It's strange. Luckily I have Smadav antivirus installed and I had the pc completely scanned. I found hundreds of viruses. I suspected the site that offered me help to spread my blog in hundreds of search engines. I signed up and since then on I got several emails. I was not suspicious of those emails, so I opened them.

I've experienced viruses/spyware on my computer. Yes, its annoying. And slows down computer. You should get free Anti-virus and free anti-spyware tools to get rid of those unwanted things. Viruses suck. Bleh.
The first one was about system shut down i remembered and told my prof about it and he said something about blue worm virus and gave me a link or ms patch to fix and delete system error shut down box. I also remember getting unwanted emails and junk.

My laptop had got virus attack within three month of purchasing. I have no idea how. But the most funny thing is I had anti virus installed at that time. Whenever I had scanned my laptop it showed no virus found. So I guessed something is wrong with this anti virus, and I installed another one. It showed me almost 20 malware.
I was just lucky enough that it got fixed by changing the anti virus only.
